The speaker fiasco is a debacle for McCarthy. It's also an embarrassment for Trump.
The failure of Trump to sway a single vote of the Republican 20 is really interesting and potentially significant. I'm surprised Aaron seems to be the only commentator pointing this out (though my knowledge of the US commentariate is not huge). All I can say is the news from the Republican clown show just keeps getting better. Reading Aaron's reports used to give me frowns of concern. Now it's exercising my under-used smile muscles.
I'm afraid this clown show will be forgotten by the next election and republican voters will still support them. If the Jan. 6th insurrection didn't turn away GOP voters, I don't know what it will take to do it.
It’s just so scary that this is what we have become. We have had bad reps in Congress before but they were outliers. Not any more. They are now the norm.
Thank you for your spot on commentary & keeping us informed!!
I've seen toddlers in a sandbox play together better than the GOP members of Congress seem capable of.
The 2022 midterms have turned out to be a gift that keeps on giving . . . Thanks for the Rep. Clark clip -- love it!
Headlines screaming that the Dems should intervene and vote for McCarthy are infuriating.
And I keep seeing talking heads condemning Dems for being sheep and voting in lockstep, completely ignoring how Republican constituents will vote for a rotting head of lettuce if there's an R after the name on the ballot.
It's not the D's responsibility to clean up the mess the Coup Caucus has created.
Wait, what was the new plan to destroy drug cartels? Was it the same as the old one of executing drug dealers?
I get that the House is big news. For me the bigger issue is it's been two years (!) and not one of the coup ringleaders has been held accountable. They are all still free to spout off their nonsense and it doesn't appear anything will be done about it by DOJ.
Right now Kevin McCarthy needs more votes from the Right Wing, than Hakeem Jeffries needs from the Republican moderates. I think that everyone should be working on getting 6 moderates to back Jeffries. Last I knew 212+6=218. I cannot keep track of where Kevin McCarthy (the loathsome, self-serving, slime) stood last time around, but people who live in Alaska could be working on Lisa Murkowski, in New Hampshire could be working on Chris Sununu, in Maine could be working on Susan Collins, on Charlie Baker in Massachusetts, on Larry Hogan in Maryland, on Phil Scott in Vermont to vote with Democrats for Hakeem Jeffries, or for one of them to be speaker. I would go with Susan Collins, or Lisa Murkowski first of all. The concessions that McCarthy is making doom him and doom us if he becomes Speaker of the House. It will be like letting the insane run the asylum.
I don’t know, man. I just feel like it’s the insurrectionists making their last stand. They couldn’t cut a deal like Marge.

I’m so grateful I follow you in SubStack now and NOT on @Twitter. It’s my personal bright spot for following DC politics in 2023. I pray 🙏🏾everyone’s New Year improves from here. 🇺🇸
