A federal court just made it much harder to fight voter suppression.
The conservative movement has been working towards undermining the gains of multiple human rights victories from the last century. The bigotry and short-sightedness towards marginalized Americans undergirds the politics of modern American conservatism and is why Trump took over.
So - murky groups of people can fund politics and political campaigns to their dark money hearts' content, but civil rights organizations cannot contest election abuses? Sounds about right, for a legal system that is itself rigged to allow political agendas to trump the rule of law. Fare thee well, oh Shining City on that Hill - we hardly knew ye.
I have zero knowledge when it comes to legal challenges (or the law, for that matter), so I’m asking; is it possible for someone to challenge the Supreme Court ruling, and Roberts’ opinion about Section 4 by trying to prove that racism is, in fact, currently rampant in America? Although in 2013, when he wrote that opinion, racism was still apparent in America but it wasn’t as open and obvious as it is now. So, I would think that with this strong evidence the Supreme Court ruling could be challenged? There must be some way to challenge the conservative support of, and active use of racism in American politics!
This makes me feel sick. What is wrong with our Justice System is when the unjust change laws to suit their wallets and not the will of the people.
There are days I just can't deal with this shit. Today is one. Uggggh.
