"Donald Trump was the dumbest goddamn student I ever had.” -Dr. William T. Kelley, marketing professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business
Trump's crazy idea that other nations pay tariffs would mean that refunds would go to those countries. The fact that the refunds go to US corporations proves he's an idiot.
I'm sure the billionaire media has already pointed that out. I must have missed it.
You may recall that the sociopathic lying mad king referred to himself as a "stable genius" after the publication of Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury" which questioned his mental health. To his unhinged, nonsensical comment, I say that he is an "unstable lunatic." The evidence is as clear as day for all the world to see. He is the only fool on the planet who insists that tariffs are paid by the exporters no matter how many celebrated economists say otherwise. It's a "don't confuse me with the facts" situation and a blatant sign of his terminal derangement.
Missing from this analysis: the demand destruction from lost allies. We <Canadians> will crawl over glass to avoid doing business with you now. We are still forced to, the way prisoners are forced to accept food from prison guards. But. This is not an allie-ship. Or any kind of partnership. This is you attempting to subjugate us. We will not forget.
It made thjs American consumer change her habits too. It used to be nothing to shop on eBay from individuals around the world. I stopped short of buying from a seller in Greece, have done business with before because I am unclear on duties from Luxembourg.
I will never understand why anyone in business or industry with any leverage at all went along with this proven stupid, fucking idea in the first place when they knew what the shit show would be to follow. Our economy and consumers got royally screwed and congressional republicans stood back and allowed it to happen. Talk about crimes against humanity.
Yes, it would have been nice to spend the money on infrastructure. But would it have been? More likely used to fund that stupid IRS "settlement" and all the extra money going to ICE in the Big Bastardly Bill. Or to replace the weapons we have wasted in Iran.
To expect new categories of spending from this regime is absurd.
The Trump administration has now filed suit that only companies that filed the lawsuit against the tariffs should be reimbursed for the tariffs, so more court fun is forthcoming. If the courts had halted the collection of tariffs until a final ruling, the companies and the consumers who buy their products would have been protected. The Supreme Court took an inordinate amount of time to cough up its 6-3 decision in what should have been a no-brainer. While I see Tom Schaller's point that maybe it would have been best to put the collected money towards public works, given how Trump and his cronies are squandering money that should be used for public works, I don't see that as a solution. Also, the Republican-controlled Congress could have ended the tariff mess by reasserting their power but chose not to do so. They as well as the administration need to be held accountable.

So much winning. I am getting so tired of winning!
Wish he would get tired of whining.
As I used to tell my 7th grade students, the Lessons are being taught; You need to learn them!

O Canada!
It made thjs American consumer change her habits too. It used to be nothing to shop on eBay from individuals around the world. I stopped short of buying from a seller in Greece, have done business with before because I am unclear on duties from Luxembourg.
And let’s also remember that the response of SCOTUS was a slap on the wrist … instead of immediate and unanimous outrage. Condone much?

All this to satisfy a delusional man! His “theories” have not just ruined lives … but also ended not a few … Covid-19 was a hoax, remember?
