I hope Ms Dye is right that Trump will fold, but I think he's too irrational for us to be sure even if realizes he's hurting the USA. I suspect he knows that he's super likely to lose control of the House no matter what so I wouldn't put it beyond him to not care about the re-election chances of Republican congressmen or women before the election and certainly not one whit after them. If he's offered enough cash by the owners of the original bridge I think he's quite capable of not giving one whit about what's good for the country. Canada is not bowing to his demands and to Trump's way of thinking that could fuel a seriously nasty grudge

Perhaps he'll fold but as I said, he's too irrational to predict what he'll do in his dotage.

Great observation … but Trump is so far over the ledge, he doesn’t know, much less care, about the effects of his constant tantrums.

Maybe thanks to high tariffs and the general abuse of Canada from Trump, there won’t be a need for that additional bridge, or really any bridge, until after Trump leaves office and we begin the task of repairing our relationship with Canada. China can use planes or ships to bring in the goods that Canada is not buying from the United States.

There is no doubt that US automakers and businesses in Detroit, Michigan, and throughout the Midwest reliant on goods from Canada will create the necessary momentum to allow the Gordie Howe Bridge to open on time. If nothing else the rant reveals the graft and corruption of the Trump administration and nationally publicizing (what was in Michigan) the long sullied Moroun family. Was it worth it?

I live in the Detroit area. Trump is so crazy on this bridge and doesn’t know any facts. And John James? He is my Congressman. Shame on him. And he’s running for Governor here in Michigan. Also good for Canada. They’ve always been the best neighbors

My elbows are up. If he weren't so utterly disgusting, I'd like to use them on an orange blob.

Thanks for the common sense report. Whenever we read about Trump it is madman stuff, and hearing what Slotkin and Carney have to say makes the sane outweigh the insane here. I am still waiting for a hacking group to shut Truth Social down at night. Apparently sundowning has Trump shitposting all night every night. I look forward to the day when Trump posts no more.

Trump has a full-blown case of dementia, with the delusions and lack of self control that go alon with it. I'm always wondering just how severe it will get before one of his sociopathic goons will decide to stealthily replace him with AI or JD Vance.

This fact pattern sounds a lot like Gibbons v. Ogden. What goes around, comes around!

If you're interested in the loooooong (and fascinating!) history of this bridge, check out the 99 Percent Invisible podcast episode "Ambassador Bridge" that aired in August. https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/640-ambassador-bridge/
