I take this as further evidence that Trump is out of control and not listening to sensible advice - or even people with half a brain brave enough to state the obvious truth. Clearly this case hasn't got a prayer of succeeding in court. But when you are in the run up to an election I can't think of a single PR adviser or political adviser who would say it's a good idea to draw attention to the fact that you've been found in court liable for sexual assault (and indeed rape as most people understand the term). It can only mean that Trump is angry with Mr S and so wants to strike back at him in the way he's used to. But Mr S and the ABC will lose no sleep over this case and the action will just give an unfavourable story more legs in the run up to an election. I can ony think this is dumb unthinking rage. We've seen quite a bit of it and I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of it in the coming months.

The #LitigationDisasterTourism peeps on Twitter, now Bluesky, refer to this as a “tweet with a filing fee.” As with previous, similar defamation lawsuits Trump filed, this is unlikely to survive a Motion to Dismiss, & Trump (er, his donors) will end up paying the defendant’ court costs

Thanks for this analysis. It feels like we're in a dystopian world some days.

You are too focused on the specifics and not thinking big enough. Trump is working the refs. His primary goal is to intimidate all media from calling him a rapist. Just as he paid Stormy Daniels in 2016 because he knew the truth could damage him, he knows that the truth ( yes, he is a convicted rapist) is damaging. His standard battle plan is bring a lawsuit to squelch the media and to flood the zone with so much crazy that people are dazed and confused.

It continues to be a mystery to me how women can defend donald trump. And this woman, in particular who was raped! That she can go on a major network and defend him just boggles my mind. What is it with the worship of trump (I intentionally do not capitalize his name)? Why are women held in his thrall? What does this woman think she is doing to help the cause of other women who have been through an experience of rape, which is probably the most horrific thing a woman can experience other than murder? I continue to just be mystified on the deepest level, that these women defend the indefensible.

I really appreciate this explainer. As Drumpf would say, it’s very powerful.

Filing a lawsuit is a reflexive action for Trump. Just another way to be a "victim" that's "fighting" so his base will continue to have this red meat tossed their way. They are addicted and he knows he has to keep feeding the beast. Having shitty lawyers is par for the course for Trump, so it's all working perfectly to losing...again.

I do wonder what New York’s vexatious litigant law requires, and how much it would take to legally stop him from filing these stupid, frivolous lawsuits. Surely he’s lost enough of them to qualify …

Why Florida? ABC is based in New York. and the Mace interview (I assume) took place in New York. Usually, a plaintiff (I use the word loosely to describe trump) must go to the defendant's location to sue. ABC has deep pockets and can hire a good lawyer to defend. They can file a motion to dismiss quickly and trump and his lawyer could be fined for filing "frivolous law suits." That already happened in Florida. To cite Aaron, trump's MO is to use anyone to promote his version of reality.

Republicans feel no shame. Hypocrisy is their superpower.

Years ago, the IRS got very tired of people filing frivolous lawsuits claiming that the income tax laws were unconstitutional (see the 16th Amendment). This also tied up IRS and court resources, and the costs are paid by taxpayers. Finally, it got a penalty to impose on taxpayers who filed such lawsuits. Unfortunately, the IRS discovered that the number of such frivolous lawsuits didn't really decline. It then got a penalty on attorneys who filed such frivolous lawsuits and, surprise, the number of such lawsuits declined dramatically. Obviously, taxpayers can file lawsuits to object to any of the tax laws specifically, but this type of lawsuit basically disappeared after penalizing the attorneys.

Just another example of Trump not thinking things through.

Nancy Mace is a brainwashed idiot! Reminding of the film God & Country which I saw recently. Here is a trailer. https://youtu.be/c9Q7ITRLLU0?si=flvPHnUKz5D6c0tt

It discusses how Treacherous-treasonous-traitor-Trump has a symbiotic relationship with White Nationalist Evangelicals. He is the charismatic charlatan preacher getting up in front of them and telling them that they experience God through him. There he is in rooms full of people just accepting his every word. There is not a critical thought going through their heads. However, another Republican just quit the House of Representatives, so even these Evangelicals are getting fed up when faced with reality. Not getting anything done is clearly exhausting. Working with non-stop obstructionism is exhausting. I am grateful that a budget got passed and worried at the violence that Treacherous-treasonous-traitor-Trump is trying to unleash over this election too.

This movie that I saw last night highlighted the symbiotic relationship between Treacherous-treasonous-traitor-Trump and the White Nationalist Evangelicals. It is called God and Country. One can rent it for $5. https://watch.eventive.org/godandcountry/play/65e601a2a2d7070041c33efd?m=1

One can see how Trump is just another charlatan preacher to these flocks of baaing sheep, bleeding them dry of money. None of these people make sense to me. That they would believe that God just wants them to pay and pay and pay. Their God is just a capitalist charlatan, with charlatan grifters spewing lies to control these idiots! How is it that I was born in a country with so many amazingly bubbleheaded and stupid people?

…But she and other prominent Trump supporters have already made clear they’re beyond feeling shame….” This is why he has a great chance of winning in November. I no longer say it’s beyond belief. Sadly, I have collected way too much evidence that Trump was right about one thing—namely—that he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose any of his supporters. It’s just plain disgusting.
