founding

The goal of paying hush money to Daniels and killing the potential stories about it was obviously to influence the election and image of Trump in the run up to November 2016. This sleezy episode is undeniable and it shows the sort of family values the Trump team brought to the Oval Office. We are worse off for it.

Nice shout out to the Hunter Biden laptop "suppression." It works all too well as a rejoinder to the MAGA worms who try to make it sound like paying off Stormy wasn't a big deal - and the fact remains that it WAS public knowledge to political junkies of all stripes before the 2020 election.

And as for this trial being "election interference" now in 2024? Well what was paying off a pornstar to stay quiet about 45 seconds of sex in the days before the 2016 election?

Let it all come out. Again. Let's remember what a blatantly despicable character Senator Graham is. Let's remember the "utterly shameless" Elise Stefanik of the dark side. Let's notice what Republicans have become en masse, in "principal"; what they are about, not just one outlier here and there.

What this makes me remember too is how inured we have become to lies and what used to shock enough to kill a candidacy. That we, many of us that is, are willing to put up with this and vote for it, makes me wonder if we will survive as a nation, no less one with any reputation that we can claim to be proud of without having to dig very deep into our founding history and then making this a morality tale about how political entities fail.

Yeah! "It's all a bunch of BS" Graham, is talking about himself! The Republican party is all a bunch of lying criminals. My daughter is currently studying Hitler's rise to power in her history class at Uni in Germany. So, I have revisited the Weimar Republic, the 15 short years of German democracy before they let the fascist Adolph Hitler take over. Those who support Trump who know he is the sick disturbed individual that he is but think he can be their useful idiot are making the same mistake that those in Germany who supported President Hindenburg appointing Hitler to the chancellorship when his party won 33% of the votes, instead of trying to form a more democratic coalition amongst other parties. The head of a lot of the media was complicit too. Let us not make the same mistake of thinking these monsters can be controlled. The only thing that might control them is nature, because all people do finally come to an end. Will it be soon enough? [the $130,000 hush money] “was used to stop the false and extortionist accusations made by her.”

the Trump camp didn’t think this one thru. & if she was extorting you, why not go to law enforcement?

This is like Clinton’s excuse re Lewinsky: “she was stalking me.” While he had the USSS right outside the Oval Office door who could handle a stalker

Excellent, excellent article describing exactly how this debacle happened. Good one for the history books. I wish everyone could read it.

This was ‘Election Interference’ by TFG.

His claims now are projection as usual.

Glad the story/background out again.

I appreciated your big-picture perspective. Purely coincidentally, I wrote from a similar perspective about what Trump is trying to do with his immunity claim (change the course of history) by evading a jury of his peers. I hope you don't mind if I share. It speaks to the greater relevance of this trial, too: https://open.substack.com/pub/blackcollarcrime/p/trump-must-face-trial-by-jury?r=30ufvh&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
