I see the influence of Ketanji Brown Jackson on this court. It is one thing to discount Black voters when the Supreme Court has no Black members except for Clarence Thomas who seems to consider himself exceptional and therefore not connected to anyone else who is Black. Justice Brown Jackson brings a reality to certain members of the court who are too removed from the realities of much of the country. Not a good thing. I appreciate that with her on the court the group dynamic has shifted. One person can do that. In her Biden chose well.

Was really pleased with the Milligan decision by SCOTUS.

It's not perfect, but it certainly wasn't the expected

total destruction of the VRA.

The justified trial of Trump

could run into the 2024

election. There's no

guarantee, no matter the

evidence, he and Nauta will

be found guilty on any of the

38 charges. The ONLY way

we CAN beat Trump, if that

happens, is at the ballot box.

We did it before, we CAN do it again.

From what I've heard the prospect of conviction on at least one of the charges is extremely high. The trouble is that if the Republicans win the White House, pardons and such like will gut the rule of law. 2024 shapes up as a HUGE election.

I agree with Noah that the Supreme Court decision was important and (understandably) drowned out by Trump’s indictment and matters arising. That said I’m a believer that there’s only so much a racist gerrymander can achieve. I don’t think the Republicans face demographic ‘headwinds’ – it’s more like an irresistible tide as a much more progressive younger generation gets onto the electoral rolls and a much more conservative older generation moves off it. Working hard to minimize Afro-American voting power makes sense for Republicans but they are slowly and steadily losing majority support amongst those of white European heritage. In time, if the Republicans want to keep in power they’ll have to do away with elections all together. Five years ago I’d have said the thought of Republicans giving up on elections was unthinkable. Now I’m not so sure.

Thanks for day-drinking us through all of this, Aaron! As usual, when it's too soul-shattering for most of us to watch those "rallies," and calls to violence, you do the heavy lifting for us! Appreciated!

Appreciate your following Sunday news, its implications, allowing the total luxury of not listening (seeing) those that cause my pulse to ring in my ears. Understandable when Internet is down at home your local Mexican Restaurant allows a comfortable atmosphere...with excellent Margaritas. Choosing small luxuries to manage disappointments allow us to proceed with calm dignity. Keep writing. You provide a compelling reason to enjoy your insights without having to emotionally digest GOP abusive disruption of democratic voice.

Regarding Bill Barr- the clip- good that he was saying all this, clarifying the issue, to a Fox audience, although I have no idea if this will be echoed by other Fox personalities. But Bill Barr is no friend of the truth. Here he claims that in other instances people were after Trump when it was not warranted. Oh yes? What? The two impeachments? here is a what about: Bill Barr's characterization of the Mueller Report that allowed Trump and his supporters to run around yelling "no collusion". Where was Barr's clarification then? Barr should never hold public office again either. His was not AG of the people's DOJ. It was Trump's DOJ.

Thank you for the longish clip of Jim Jordan and Dana Bash. He's amazing how he talks in non-stop. This is his mode because he has no truth to speak slowly to let you process it. He keeps saying the same thing over and over despite Ms Bash correcting him that Trump himself contradicts Jordan's fast talk. Jordan pauses now and then to listen to the response and then goes back into his loop of saying the same thing... claiming Trump as a victim. Then he finally pivots to Hillary Clinton. Jordan conveniently ignores all the differences, all the facts. Jordan will go on like this ad nauseam regardless even after proof after proof, ruling after ruling. Then he will continue investigating, using the government as a weapon to investigate itself for weaponizing the government. He must have a switch under his shirt that turns him off. But then again he is not in this attack dog position, for no reason. He's one of the troops.

I like Noah's take in Allen v. Milligan. I would love to see other states be forced to redraw their gerrymandered districts... Ohio, anyone? I doubt this will go that far, but it's - at the least - a start.

Although I'm sure you were quite busy what with all the clipping and posting Sunday (I had a hard time keeping up!), you could've slapped a sombrero on Mia and let her entertain your fellow customers! She would have LOVED it! Then again, you might have had to cut down on the Margaritas just a tad, lol! :D

thank you Noah and Aaron. It's a formidable thing to keep up with the news especially lately and I rely on this and others for short cuts like this- with integrity and respect for the truth, deeper insight to keep informed. Try to get through this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_Rights_Act_of_1965

Regarding the SCOTUS confirmation of the Voting Rights Act the lesson, confirmed for a long time, has been that you cannot rely on people to obey the spirit of laws nor even when there is no law but norms to keep us a democracy. Thus we have laws and more laws and rulings. Our rickety Constitution was set up so that the minority had a say in our government. We find now, and for awhile, that the majority is being disadvantaged by a conniving corrupt minority. The majority is fighting, absurdly, for its rights. The most recent Supreme Courts have failed us.

I don't understand still, the why or what is intended by this last ruling. Does it reverse the previous (2021/22 SCOTUS) on gerrymandering? The minute that the racist tending states were relieved of having to be checked by the Voting Rights Act, (2013?) they proceeded as if it was a mandate to continue denying the vote to those they feared.

Aaron, thank you for your dedication, even to eat Mexican food- which is not such a punishment. I rely on your reporting especially lately.
