While the primary debates have been about nothing, I did something useful with them. I raised $$ for abortion funds. I was able to donate 430$ to 3 different funds.

I wish the writer and the others would stop whining about "Russian influence" in 2016. That will be a given in any election, and no one outside of the US will feel it unwarranted, sine the US does it all the time (this was mentioned mnay times in Kissinger obituaries). But the damaging feature of 2016, one totally within our control, was how the press behaved. The totally phoney issue of "her emails", repeated gleefully over aand over again, Hillary's "cackle", etc. Reporters loved covering Trump. We've had months of reporting that Biden is really, really old, but he's clearly in far better shape than Trump. Stop whining about things we can't control.

Fair points. I'd argue the Russian campaign in 2016 was many degrees more severe than what we normally see in US politics, but I do acknowledge that US hands aren't clean on this score.

Well, try this for example

And you can look up Victoria Nuland's phone call discussing suitable rulers for Ukraine, that was less than a decade ago. No, our hands are not clean, and the lack of support for Ukraine in Asia and the South in my view reflects this reality. Repeating: it's a pointless thing to complain about. We can't control Putin--we can't even control Netanyahu. Our press should look at itself.

90% of me agrees that these Republican primary has been a waste of time given Trum'ps pre-eminance. But...what if Trump is convicted and sentenced in 2024? Surely the Republican base wouldn't want a jail-bird as leader....Hmmm. Probably they would if it's Donald Trump.

So true about the polls. This is soooooo early. We think everyone is paying attention like we are. They aren't. They are paying attention to their lives, their kids, their jobs, their TikToks and reality TV shows. They have zero idea what Trump is saying and doing. But as the election draws closer, I think the information gap will close sufficiently to change the polling. It's still scary close but I'm not panicking... yet.

The DNC should be running commercials nonstop about the blurs, with a good side effect of reminding everyone about what really happened on Jan 6, and not made by their normal dipwads that screw up their commercials so bad but made by the guys that make for example the Capital One commercials. Can't anybody here play this game?

"DeSantis has been making a fool himself by refusing to denounce Trump’s Nazi rhetoric while insisting the issue with his authoritarianism is that it doesn’t go far enough." I agree with the points you make in this essay but I will add that DeSantis, Republicans in Congress and most of the Republican voters lean heavily towards authoritarianism since they can't get their agenda passed through free and fair elections (hence the voter suppression). They see this as noblesse oblige.

Debates are worthless, a 19th century anachronism. Gore mopped the floor with Jr yet all the news said that Jr won. Same as with HRC and tangeranus. No one is served, not even the journalists that continuously hype them as somehow newsworthy. Not one voter has ever watched a debate in modern times and said, you know what, I was going to vote for the Democrat but that debate changed my mind!

Asked recently about Trump calling his political foes vermin, Haley politely said she disagrees but added “I think he means well.”"

Please o please, dear Nikki, tell us how calling his fellow citizens vermin "means well". That's one of the most ridiculous things she's ever said.

News Nation bills itself as an independent news source. I wonder what the moderators will do and ask. I’m not sure I’m curious enough to watch the Final Four, however.
