“As you’d expect from Fox, the interview was openly, rabidly partisan. Baier repeatedly interrupted Harris, and even at one point cut away to play her a literal Trump ad for Fox viewers.”

I couldn’t agree more Noah. Baier is an ASSHOLE and began the interview mansplaining, and eventually got caught in his own web of demented SPIN!

I particularly loved when she called Baier out for the edited clip of Trump’s “enemy within” nonsense, but her best reaction, was when Baier played the clip of the mother who lost a daughter to an undocumented person. She showed restraint, conviction and sympathy for the victim’s family. It was a loaded question which would have derailed most people.

Then Baier had the audacity to ask why half the country supports Trump. First off, it’s 45-46% of the population, not over half. Trump has never won the pop vote. Secondly, perhaps the right question would have been why more than 50% of Americans support Harris?

Ironically, Fox wouldn’t allow Harris to finish a sentence, yet whenever Trump is on Fox, they act like a Trump whisperer; guiding his answers and trying to correct him in realtime. Yet, democrats can’t get a word in edge wise. OUTSTANDING!

Fortunately, the Romney/Haley wing of the party won’t be fooled; especially the women who support the GOP!

Bottom line: Baier is a Trump Troll who bought a $35 million mansion near Mar-aLarDo, and he was the first Fox “so called” journalist to throw a tantrum when Fox’s election team called AZ for Biden in 2020. fair and balanced isn’t even in his vocabulary! Personally, I’m not sure why Harris’s team went with Baier; it was always going to be a deliberate takedown of Harris. That said, given the circumstances; she turned the tables on these clowns and came out smelling like roses! IMHO!…:)

Baier is such a stooge too. JFC, only in America can a haircut like that own a $30mm home

That tells us the kind of money which is behind these unsound talking points.

I suspect it is the high roller money looking for more tax cuts at the top. Pure self interest.

Not to mention the botox and caked on makeup. His face doesn’t move at all. In contrast, Kamala looked natural and expressive. This sounds superficial but it says something about each of them.

I really just mean that Baier is an empty suit and a total foot stool. His gaudy house in DC would make Uday Hussein blush.

That’s the vulgarity of “nouveau riche” people, no class, no taste, just showy poor taste.

You NAILED it, thanks. He tried so hard to bait Harris into saying that half of the American people are morons and she not only did not take the bait, she reversed the charge. Baier-the-ASSHOLE took the classic Roy Cohn approach of attackAttackATTACK and she saw it coming and responded with truth and style. Brava Kamala!

She came out of that well to our satisfaction on this side of the deep divide. Maybe she moved a centimeter towards showing that she is not what they and Trump have been saying in name calling superlatives and lies.

She hardly could address much of the now pervasive gish galloping. The truth takes time and focus to get its pants on.

Fox insists that Harris be subjected to the debate that they wish trump could do, while also smothering trump in bubble wrap and fabreeze before delicately rolling him out for everyone to sing happy birthday.

Great imagery!

Yes Trump would be nowhere without his support. Nowhere.

That last point is so critical. The politics of going on Fox was good for Harris and her campaign, but it's also important to project and defend empathy for others. Even people watching Fox can relate to that at some level and those that can't aren't the target anyway. We must always remember our collective basic humanity. Thanks for the analysis!

Harris is the bravest women in America. She is a SUPERHERO and should have a movie made with her as the hero! That would be the opposite of what Bad Boy Bros Trump and Cohen are in The Apprentice. Viva la Kamala!

Interesting how you maintain the a perceived limitation to the marginalized into the Harris campaign. To my knowledge Harris/Waltz speaks to ALL people on the same respectful playing field. Only media journalists choose to place labels on people and prop them into a category of voters. Democracy works because all votes are counted independent of themselves.

so, this is the “all lives matter” argument, right? everyone is equal, so we shouldn’t emphasize the discrimination faced by particular groups.

the problem is that certain groups are marginalized and targeted. undocumented people can’t vote; prisoners often can’t; trans ppl are a tiny minority and their votes aren’t necessarily seen as valuable. they all are groups targeted for hate and discrimination. I think that you need to push back against that hate and discrimination specifically in order to advance democracy and justice. and there’s no way to do that without recognizing the ways that some groups are treated differently, and working to address that.

This is off topic, but I think many people don't know that "Undocumented" (and therefore subject to deportation and certainly not permitted to vote) includes MANY people with DACA, TPS and work permits, just not US citizenship documents. I have close friends in these categories, and they ARE targeted for hate and discrimination, as though their lives don't matter. Thanks very much for your piece and for your comment.

You outlined your point however I don’t see exactly how much time this campaign has to satisfy the media’s compulsion to address and opine on our social inequalities through access journalism.

I guess identifying middle class is just too broad a term for voter appeal?

One person, one vote. And they ALL should be counted.

“Democracy works because all votes are counted independent of themselves.”

That’s the problem, all the votes aren’t counted. Many groups are disenfranchised; strict and draconian voter laws make voting for some impossible, or close to impossible. For example, several Confederate states no longer allow church groups to bus their members to the polling station. And not all people have cars. Polling sites are being moved away from convenient locations, making it difficult to get to a polling site….:)

I imagine this was a tough evaluation to write of the Fox "interview"Baier's assignment to "get" Harris. Baier was insufferable. You pick out a good moment in your clip where Baier shut up and let her speak. Rarely was she allowed to make her point over his over talking, in effect a blockage of her answers. I can only imagine that the viewers, in this adversarial gladiator scene, were diverted from the part of their brain that is fair and wants input of the truth ( if that part has not atrophied ) to rooting against the opposition, Harris, the enemy. This is the goal: dividing us. And they have succeeded.

Do we pivot now? Didn't the Democrats triangulate already moving us all more rightward. Did that satisfy the monster? The goal was to make her look bad... the gotcha's.. and not let her get a word in edgewise. So all she could do was strong pushback over talking his over talking. Yes he shut up for the clip above and maybe another. Yes she held her own.But a lot was not discussed. I think she had no such expectations either, being realistic. Baier, is supposed to be their more palatable, fairest of the Fox anchors propagandist, liars.

One thing has been so disheartening during this whole Trump period is the progression of people, especially those in public life and office, that have turned away from truth and bought hate and division in support of this severely unfit ex-president who never stopped his insurrection against the country.

Watching Kamala Harris navigate the male misogynistic bully of a host just made me so proud of her. She is so well spoken and allows herself to show a flash of anger when it’s appropriate. I love when she said “you know it and I know it”, because indeed, all of these people who pretend to act like they’re a journalist or news anchor know that their candidate for republican president and the candidate vice president as well, are unfit, racist, “christian” nationalistic, authoritarian bullies. I am fully in the Harris Walz camp and proud of it. Something else that stood out to me, was the absolutely inhospitable and bare room that they sat down in. Normally, there are warm accents, plants, maybe even a fake fireplace when you sit down with someone of note for an interview. This looks like it was in a basement with a ramp going up to a door in the background. And I believe that was deliberate. It was not meant to look warm and inviting, it was not meant to look hospitable. I despise Fox News and everything it stands for, I don’t have television so I don’t ever see it anyway but I do catch clips on social media. They stand for nothing that is good.

A little nitpicking. Each interview can’t be the end-all, be-all. Otherwise: Thanks for watching for me.
