Excellent piece!

I’ve viewed this as a latter day version of Benghazi Hearings. Comer has in essence, taken the McCarthy role here, letting the cat out of the bag; that this is designed to lower Biden’s numbers, like Benghazi was designed to lower Hillary’s numbers. Hunter has the Hillary role, but R’s won’t give Hunter his 11 hours like Hillary. A disaster for them again!

This piece explained to me some legal/political machinations that had me puzzled. Thank you. It also showed me that if a buffoon speaks long enough eventually an isolated bit of truth will appear. So when James Comer bragged his committee was 'in the down hill phase' I laughed aloud. It surely has been going down hill for a long time...I'd say it's underground and in free fall in some chasm.

The only thing in Comer's defense is that he was dealt a rotten pack of cards when he was asked to investigate Jim Biden via his son because the corrupt connection simply wasn't there. But surely they should have folded their hand and quietly walked away months ago. I cannot see what the Republicans are thinking they are gaining from flogging this horse that's so obviously dead you can smell the stench and see bones sticking out.

“The only thing in Comer's defense is that he was dealt a rotten pack of cards”

Don’t try to provide him with an excuse. Particularly one that is nonsense.

If Comer any sense of integrity or even pragmatism he never would’ve picked up those cards. But he did so eagerly, enthusiastically. So it’s wrong and self-defeating to even suggest that in any way his sham of an investigation is anybody else’s fault.

"Nevertheless, he persisted" - saw what you did, and I loved it.

Don't you just love Gym Jordan talking about the conditions for anyone to testify due to a subpoena? We are still waiting for him to testify according to the subpoena he received - how many years ago was that?

Calling it a "bluff" assumes that Lowell and Hunter know that they're dealing with a savvy and competent actor who was absolutely certain to fold accordingly. "Savvy and competent" are not words anyone who's been paying attention would associate with James Comer.

Team Hunter had to accept that there was a strong chance that "common sense" would not prevail with Comer and pals (as evidenced by Jason Smith and Miranda Devine's hasty walk backs) and they would find themselves penciled in for a public hearing, so they were taking on a lot of risk here. Yet still this piece makes it sound like it almost certainly would've gone worse for them than Comer.

As we say in our house..."what a foolio". Comer keeps stepping on rakes! He should be a Looney Tunes character!

Abbe Lowell doesn't command the fees he gets without reason. He's worth every penny, as we can tell from his prior 'engagements' with other defendants/witnesses/ppl-in-hot-water. Definitely the guy I'd love to have in my corner if I was in a similar position. To be fair, however, I won't ever be, mostly cuz I don't have that kind of cake, and I don't do those kinds of things. ;)

Not the point, but I'm SO tired of the GOP's insistence on "sunlight". It's projection since that's the very last thing they want.

Moskawitz almost had Comer crying and stepping on his dick. Funny.
