Drug and alcohol addiction is tragic. Anyone who is able to become sober after addiction is to be commended. Too many families are impacted by a family member who has struggled with addiction, or is still addicted. Often addiction ends in death, either through an overdose or suicide.
Addiction is not an excuse for breaking the law, and a person needs to take responsibility for their actions, and face justice. Justice, however, must be administered in an equitable manner. The relentless pursuit of Hunter Biden for his sins by the Republicans who are in thrall to the former President is motivated by their desire to take down President Biden, and has nothing to do with justice.
OK, this article enticed me to subscribe. Had a family event over the weekend and could have used Lisa Needham's article a few days ago! Thanks so much for a succinct, clear explanation of this mess. Been reading Liz Cheney's book and just amazed at what our representatives will do to stay in power. While I don't agree with her politics, she is to be commended for her support of our constitution and rule of law!
The Republican Party has gone off the rails. They support the obviously criminal Trump family while working overtime to find something, anything to smear our POTUS. I’m hoping for a blue tsunami in 2024 and hoping we can wash these MAGA criminals out for good!!
Side note: after my wife died as a result of glioblastoma multiforme last year, I too have been seeking answers to the question “what caused this to happen?”. I am told by the medical profession that ionizing radiation is the only known cause of this devastating brain tumor. Beyond that, other causes are still unknown and a familial genetic connection is not believed to exist. I hope before Joe and I are gone, a breakthrough in understanding is made, but I do not expect that to happen.
