Rep Remirez nailed the best reason to eliminate DHS. Let us not forget that DHS was a hasty political reaction to 9/11 when the US was blindsided by the world's worst terrorism. Americans asked why our government agents did not see these terrorists preparing this massive attack that took years and millions of dollars to create. Where was CIA, FBI, etc.? Bush would be facing re-election in a year, and had to do something, so he stashed a number of semi-homeless agencies into the DHS stew pot, among which were border security police, even though the terrorists were all in the US legally. Doubtless, he had no idea a successor would build a fascist police army with those assets.
I have been calling Trump a fascist since 2018, DHS was easily converted into his Gestapo on the backs of border guards to keep out invading hordes of poor refugees. Of course, border guards needed to be recruited in large numbers. Right-wing militia's proud oath-keeper boys came to the rescue!
Of course, like Hitler, MAGAs needed concentration camps to stash their liberal enemies. Building more prison capacity was justified by storing 10s of thousands of immigrants as they were being processed for deportation or some other ruse.
