On a surface level the dysfunction of the Republican party seems amusing, but on a deeper level, as it effects our democracy to have only one functioning party is just sad. The Republicans have gone down a path that makes them not the party of Lincoln, but more the party of Hitler. That is truly awful!
A highly successful Australian conservative leader (John Howard) said 'disunity is death'. Well it doesn't seem to be the case in the US. As far as the Republicans are concerned disunity is the status quo, though one wonders if the death is just taking it's time coming. I'm old enough to remember when the Republicans had unity.
I used to think the Republican caucus was a confederacy of clowns but clowns are happy, funny people. This is more like a mob that is turning in on itself with aggression and spite. I don't trust Noah to get a good reading on this chaos because I doubt anyone can get a good reading on this lot. We'll just have to stand back and wait till a faction forms that is dominant or they all fall down exhausted. What a joke of a house of government!
Really enjoyed the clip of McGovern pummeling the entire GOP to total silence in the chamber. He spoke truth to power, although I am guessing the “Freedom Caucus” members boycotted the session.
‘Wonton wreckery’ sounds like a RNC talking point re the summit
Ugh, just caught that. I wasn't even hungry when I was editing either.
Fried or steamed?
I could go for some Wonton Wreckery right about now....
This is helpful. I had not understood the personal motives before.
Sounds like a group teenager-strategy, yet with zero expectation of maturing.
Thank you.

Rescued Drowning Victim: "Lifeguards are evil and engaging with them is anathema."
Wonton wreckery is more fun seeming than wanton wreckery. I’ll allow it.
But yeah Republicans suck and it sucks for democracy.
😆 I guess I will just pretend that typo was intentional
I’m kind of sad it was fixed...
Wasn't it Boebart who first talked about "wonton" not "wanton"? And, pronounced the word like the Chinese dish?
LOL I wish that typo had a deep meaning of that sort -- fixed now, thanks.
I wonder if McCarthy will resign?
Who knows? McCarthy has said he will stay in Congress, but he has said both that he will run for re-election, or maybe not.
The House GOP is dysfunctional and the root cause is the Freedom Caucus. Till they're gone, totally, don't expect sanity
to return to that part of the
chamber.
Mike Johnson...beware of the
man wearing sheeps clothing.
There's something just too pat about this "back bencher"
getting elected speaker. Beware.
Kevin McCarthy is raking in
big bucks. I doubt he plans
to retire or give up his sleazy
game.
