In addition to all those cases you listed, the current justices have added a new shameful entry: Shinn v Ramirez, in which they ruled that the possibility a convicted person is actually innocent is insufficient reason to not execute them. I’m not for packing the Court. I’m for firing all of them, dismantling the building, and starting anew. Possibly with the whole rest of the federal judiciary. We cannot allow ourselves to be ruled by an institution so immoral.

I told James Madison this would happen when he was writing the Constitution but he just wouldn't listen to me...

Couldn’t agree more! This is what I feel like I’m yelling into the ether every day, “The Court is composed judges who don’t answer to the electorate and have spent the last 10-20 years assaulting voting rights. It’s an illegitimate, authoritarian institution which is trying to impose minoritarian tyranny on the majority.”

It’s an illegitimate court because it represents the complete OPPOSITE of the makeup of the country. The electoral college & the filibuster are literally destroying our country and our democracy. It’s incredible these two things have lasted as long as they have, but their utility ran out a long time ago when this country’s population boomed. Between that and the illegitimate court, we’re being strangled by our own systems of government by those who would manipulate and abuse for their own selfish ends. It makes me absolutely sick & despondent, but we must keep fighting. I look forward to the day when the filibuster & electoral college are finally thrown away so we can be the democracy we’ve been promised. You know, one person, one vote where majority ACTUALLY rules? Term limits along with ethics reforms & adding seats to the SC should be right behind them.

I agree that the further extreme right the GQP and the court go, the more they will push the public into some kind of fight back. I think most people rightly understand that destroying Roe isn’t about abortion, it’s about control. And if they can wipe away a right women have had for 50 years with absolutely nothing but their religion & partisan politics to back it up, what will they go after next? Makes me sick that in a country with freedom of religion, these few would try to impose their religious beliefs on the rest of us. It is so anathema to this country it’s hard to believe it’s real.

I think the media should talk about “donor’s trust” to the point that leaks are inevitable. Then we can find out who owns most of the court.

SCROTUS has always been pretty much 25-30 years behind the public.

"Conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett has similarly insisted “this Court is not comprised of a bunch of partisan hacks.”"

She is so full of it. And herself. She was chosen because she is a partisan hack, and will continue to be in order to please those who supported her.

Unfortunate timing, but a terrific column. Thank you!
