This is more than hypocrisy- it’s basically the GOP telling us who they are, and we should believe them. And it’s also funny - brings to mind the hilarious Key and Peele skit where Obama “negotiates” with the Republicans by offering them everything they ask for, but they can’t say yes because they must oppose him at every turn. And Obama keep saying, well, ok, and “you guys drive a hard bargain.”

After he was charged with corruption the first time, how on earth did he get to be chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee?

Easy. They have no morals.

"This is partly about Trump". I'd suggest it's entirely about him. If there was no Trump indictments I'm sure the Republicans and right wing media would be all over Menendez. A useful comparison can be made between the parties membership. They did a poll of NJ Democrats and it's clear his political career will be over. On a 3 way contest he came third with support in the single figures and net favourability rating in the negative fifties. Compare and contrast the fact resistant fealty of registered Republicans to Trump who every poll suggests he's the run away favourite for the Republican Party. It really has become in large part a cult.

Correction needed. Tom Cotton is unfortunately the

Senator from Arkansas not

Alabama and he's in lock-steo with our governor

HuckabeeSanders. That fool from AL is Tuberville.

"Maybe the issue for the GOP is that they just sincerely, truly don’t think Menendez did anything wrong. Bribery and corruption are a betrayal of constituents."

Disagree. I think that saying a Senator should resign after being hit with a four count felony indictment while saying Trump should not drop out of the 2024 presidential race after being hit with four felony indictments for a total of 91 counts in four jurisdictions really is a bridge too far for them.

And the Senate Democrats need to get the ball rolling in expelling Menendez right freaking now. Skip the ethics investigation and all that process stuff and just do it. He's going to be held accountable politically and legally sooner or later so use him to hold Republicans accountable. Force them on the record. If they vote yes then that confirms that they don't think a politician credibly accused of serious federal felonies should hold office. If they vote no then they'll have to explain to GOP primary voters back home why the hell they let a corrupt Dem off the hook. It's a win-win.

I agree with your stance and idea—but I really truly wonder if the Cult of Trump even CARES about politicians being corrupt any more. Charges or even allegations that would have sunk a candidate forever twenty or even ten years ago bounce off Trump like they're Nerf balls, and I think a lot of Republicans want to see if they can be invulnerable to allegations of corruption, too!

It's ironic that Trump constantly accuses Biden, Obama and Hillary with being "crooked" as well as being "Left-Wing Socialists" ::spit-take!::, while Trump's corruption is so obvious he doesn't even claim otherwise any more. He just says "I have an absolute right to do that", and his base gobbles it up.

I'm starting to think we're all living on Bizarro World, or the Pakled planet on STAR TREK.

I’m so discouraged today. This Speaker situation ... Jim Jordan.

I’ve been working for structural reforms: ranked choice voting, mostly. But it’s all volunteer, no money. Getting out and educating people, some of whom have decided already that their vote is meaningless and there is no hope of changing that. There are such deep pockets putting thumbs on the scale. Gerrymandering in NC, plus Cotham switching parties. Menendez’ corruption is awful. I’m glad that many Dems are calling him out. And now with the Hamas attack, on top of Ukraine. 🤦🏻‍♀️🥹😭

Maybe fix this one typo as it changes the meaning: “If those in power rule by right and without accountability ...” I believe you meant “rule by might.”
