The first priority for the Democrats if they reach a majority in the House this November should be to pass articles of impeachment against Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Alito and Thomas. That is just how serious the corruption of the Supreme Court has become. We can wait until 2029 to enlarge the Court, but something substantive must be done NOW...

Outstanding. I read Kavanaugh’s concurrence with horror. The fuck is wrong with people like that? And Alito’s dissent left me in shock. That such people walk among us appalled me. And that they would dare write such things terrifies and dismays me beyond words. Thank you.

It should not take a law degree to read the plain, succinct text of the first sentence of Section 1 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution to conclude anything other than what it clearly states: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the States wherein they reside."

Nothing in the ensuing text of the amendment contradicts the simple statement in any way, shape or form.

Not understanding the simple but powerful message of that sentence is a bit like looking at the calendar this morning and seeing that today is Wednesday but coming to the conclusion that it's Saturday.

Thank you for expressing my own horror that this decision was not a 9-0, as it should have been. The justices who voted against a clear reading of the 14th Amendment and the one who pretended to vote for it by gutting the text itself should be disbarred for having failed the most minimal test of a lawyer, never mind of a justice of what used to be the highest and now is the lowest court of the U.S.

BRAVO. Not doomer-y at all. This retired attorney can out-despair PN most any day. The law prof. quoted at the end - thank you - captured my despair and outrage: the evil never ends, or even takes a rest. It only morphs into another drive towards another form of barbarism,,,until it roars back with some 'lost casue'. Dare we ask: is this all worth saving?

And as for Alito, all I can say is if he had his way, they might not allow him to become a citizen. Note: a certain ethnic slur and its meaning that was directed at his own ancestors who were only 1-2 generations ago.
