Excellent piece.

Privacy is next.

Noted Heritage Foundation- desire to stop recreational sex. Consequentiality of sex has to return, but consequentiality of gun violence for children doesn’t matter. Hardly pro-life. Prurience matters only to R’s.

Consequential sex for who? For women. There’s never consequential sex for men because they can’t get pregnant. They can freely fuck whomever they please whenever they please. Women who get pregnant outside of marriage are slovenly sluts who get what they deserve for not keeping their legs shut.

The ivf exception in AL is written to expire next year. After the election. Students for Life tried co-opting the language of the environmental movement saying bc poisons our waterways. These people think IUD’s, emergency contraception (Plan B), & some other forms of hormonal bc are the same as abortion.

They want to trap us. Trap us in dependency. Trap us with children we can’t care for. Trap us in abuse. To fulfill some bs fantasy world of long ago that never existed.

I saw that headline in my inbox and thought, "Oh, they'll never ban birth control!" Then, to borrow a phrase from TS I realized that I'm the problem, it's me. It's everyone who thinks (as I once did), "Oh, they won't ban this. they won't ban that." Until they do. There is no bottom here because they truly do not care about consequences for others. This will not end unless we absolutely crush them at the ballot box.

GOP VOTER: I voted for Trump because I want women seeking abortions to be turned away at the door. As for me and my husband, we're using protection 'til were ready to start a family.

The GOP: Oh no you're NOT.

GOP VOTER: Turns out we have fertility issues and we'll need to turn to IVF to start our family.

The GOP: Nope.

Vote BLUE.

Lisa, thank you for your insightful article. If you'll allow me, I'd like to address the elephant in the room.

Back to basics: The so-called "belief" that "life begins at conception " is patently false. It begins long BEFORE that. In fact, the egg that eventually developed into YOU was ALIVE and well in your mother's ovary months before SHE was born! Of course, conception was a crucial point in your long journey to personhood. But I challenge anyone who claims to believe that a fertilized human egg is the moral equivalent of a baby to consider this: You are a mother of a newborn baby, and you are in the maternity ward. Your baby is in the newborn nursery down the corridor to the left. Down the corridor to the right is the IVF clinic where you have two frozen embryos. A fire breaks out and you have time to save your newborn baby or your two frozen embryos. Which will you choose? Now ask yourself this: How many frozen embryos would you have to save to make abandoning your newborn baby the “moral” choice?

Many "believers" have been, and continue to be, bamboozled by their religious leaders about this moral question. But just thinking about the above simple ethical "dilemma" reveals the truth: A fertilized human egg is NOT the moral equivalent of a baby!

Sincerely,

Justin StormoGipson, MD

Why are Republicans (mostly men) so obsessed with sex and anything related to sex? Almost all rapes are committed by men and almost all pedophilia is committed by men. Scroll through social media and see the numerous men arrested, many affiliated with religious and/or political organizations, who rape and possess child pornography. Have you noticed that most cult leaders (including Trump) want to have sex with as many women (the younger the better) as possible. The Boy Scouts have filed for bankruptcy because of sexual abuse - note that there have been no similar charges against the Girl Scouts. The Catholic Church is riddled with priests who are pedophiles but won't allow women priests. The Southern Baptists and the Mormons have also sheltered their own who are rapists and pedophiles. Are these fanatics also going after the rapists and the pedophiles? No, they always blame women, going all the way back to the Adam and Eve myth. Are these fanatics also going after pornography and prostitution which, by definition, are recreational sex? Vote Blue, up and down the ballot.

Social supremacy

disguised as religious zealotry

supported by endless money and

enriched through zero legal consequences

is and has been the most destructive force in recorded history. We are witnessing it now.

The tyrannical minority has gerrymandered their way into statehouses across the country and are silencing minority voices inside their own legislative bodies (see Rep Justin Jones, Rep Tom Suozzi, et al)

Disengaged voters have unwittingly betrayed the disenfranchised, possibly disenfranchising the rest of us in the future.

Local and state officers run unopposed.

Will independent and newly registered voters bring us back from the brink?

Will the media?

They’re not just coming for abortion, IVF, birth control - they’re coming for everything.

Thank you for pointing out that Griswold, Roe, and others are actually based on the right to PRIVACY. Alito presumably didn't dare say "privacy is not mentioned in the constitution" for fear of overwhelming backlash, but in fact it isn't. The Court in Griswold, et seq used the "penumbra" doctrine to come to its conclusion--the implications of all the other explicit rights in the constitution result in conclusion that privacy was also an important, if unmentioned, right.

It was this reasoning that Alito actually rejected and destroyed.

And consider that the words "human life begins at conception" don't appear in the BIBLE. How do the conservatives get to it? By combining all sorts of statements and reaching that conclusion.

In other words, the whole basis for the far-right's position is based on.....the penumbra doctrine.

Apparently it’s fine if rich White people exterminate their own embryos while residing in a Petri dish, but it’s not OK for poor women—or children who were raped—to dispose of an unwanted embryo residing in their own body.

Thank you Aaron and Lisa for providing solid journalism. It is deeply appreciated!

I’m Catholic, and our Church does say that you can practice birth control, but not if you use science to achieve that, just natural family planning. However, scientific ovulation monitoring equipment to help natural family planning along—of course that science is fine to rely on.

Then at the end of life, they accept, and are eager for, any and all science to interfere with natural death. No tubes or machines are off limits to artificially extend life. Will conservatives demand that everyone undergo CPR when their heart stops no matter the state of their medical condition? That be fed by a tube? That all are required to be on vents?

The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 is aligned with Putin and Alexander Dugin’s decades long project to restore and expand the Russian empire. They pushed the narrative that science should never be trusted. Putin has used Christianity as a justification for this evil. Evangelicals and extreme right wing Catholics actually admire Putin but they don’t realize that they are being used as accomplices to Russia’s evil plan.

Jesus did not establish an earthly kingdom. Christian Nationalists want to correct Him.

I am heartbroken after yesterday evening’s Supreme Court ruling. Will justice ever come? Will common sense?

If a zygote and fetus in Alabama is considered a minor child then the parents should be able to claim it as such on their tax returns and the father should be forced to pay child support from the moment of conception.

This is not only fault of the GOP.

I will never, as long as I live, forget how 1 in 10 Bernie Sanders supporters, the majority of whom were men, voted for Donald Trump in 2016.

Telling us they needed to “vote their conscience” and then telling us women not to worry our pretty little heads about the Supreme Court.

And now in Michigan we have the far left cheering that they might cause Biden to lose in November.

They take credit for it now.

But if Biden loses in November, they will blame anyone else but themselves.

And let us all not forget that in 2020, we had multiple qualified female candidates running for President, and our party went with the two oldest white men. Not one single man stepped aside, and not one single male candidate defended the women candidates from the sexism they received from the media.

They all took advantage of it, instead.

Women, we have very few allies in this world.

“Not all men,” insist the “good” men.

Which must explain why nearly every woman I know has been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed a man.

“Religious conservatives are calling for a return to a world where sex isn’t recreational or for pleasure”

So they want to return to a world that… never existed!

America’s “Founding Fathers”, the people of the Renaissance, of the Middle Ages, the citizens of ancient Rome and Greece, those that saw the Egyptian Pyramids built, the first farmer along the banks of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, back to the first Homo Erectus and beyond.

From the beginning of time, across the entire world, people have always FUCKED FOR FUN!
