Listen now (40 min) | I talked to Ron Filipkowski about the GOP primary, why he's worried about a possible DeSantis vs. Biden matchup, how he finds so many viral clips, and more.
I just watched your first episode. Living in Florida most of my life (my family moved here when I was eleven), I found it very interesting. You all were talking about DeSantis being popular in the state. When he ran for governor the first time (2018), the results were so close that it triggered a machine recount, & he was certified the winner with a 0.4% margin of victory. His Democratic opponent this past year was Charlie Crist. Mr. Crist was Governor of Florida in 2007-2011 as a Republican, he ran again as an Independent (2010) & lost, & ran again this past year as a Democrat (2012), & lost to DeSantis. He was not a strong candidate, & the Democratic Party gave minimal support in the 2022 election, putting their funds in states where they felt they had a better chance of winning. The result is that the Republicans are in complete control of the State Government. Registered Florida voters as of 01/31/23 are as follows: Republicans- 36%, Democrats- 34%, Minor parties - 2%, & No Party Affiliation- 28%. If the Democrats would step up their funding & messaging, they would have a good chance of winning most of the 28% who are not registered as Republicans.
