In Iowa, the conventional wisdom is that Democrats had a better chance of beating Ernst than Hinson. We'll see how it goes but I don't think Ernst's decision to retire puts the seat more in play.

Why is this the CW?

Because she will raise a lot of money and doesn’t have all of Ernst’s baggage. Unlikely to make a huge gaffe. Doesn’t have any questions about her relationships with military liaisons (as Propublica reported about Ernst in March).

I remain unconvinced that Ernst was unusually flawed or damaged! And she would have raised tons of money as well. Hinson has the exact same voting record (specifically the OBBBA) and has to introduce herself to the rest of the state.

Also says something to me that the WH did not want Ernst to retire.

This story could be spun into some pretty damaging ads:

Hinson's not going to have to deal with anything like that. Yes, her voting record is the same as Ernst's but she will probably never say something as stupid as "We all are going to die."

I was angry that the Democratic party leadership did not back Mamdani when they said they would back the winning candidate. I know others who feel the same. I think that contributes to people wanting to directly fund candidates instead of the party. I do not see Schumer and Jeffries as capable of leading under this regime. I am also upset that David Hogg left the DNC. We need to be recruiting and developing our youth leaders like the Republicans do with their CPAC conferences and things like that. I am excited that the Democratic party is once again 2 parties because I identify more as a Social Democrat in the US.

Good interview , gentleman, , I am on the census in Maine. Never liked a Collins, La page. Wonder 💭 about Golden. Look on blue sky. He voted for punishment towards, migrants. He won’t be interviewed. La Page is running against him. Janet Mills would win if she took Collins seat away .

Jackie Norris is the best DEM for Iowa to take that seat from Joni Ernst.

- Jackie has a unique profile and message. A teacher, School Board Chair, small business owner, and Mother raising three boys – two in our military academics: she’s a ‘Mom on a Mission’:

- Service has been the guiding force through her life -- Jackie served as Chief of Staff to Michelle Obama in the White House, later worked at President George H.W. Bush’s Points of Light, and then CEO of Goodwill of Central Iowa.

- Her focus on Mental Health, leading the charge to limit cell phone use in classrooms, expanding non-college pathways to career and technical education, and her “Caregiving Economy” messaging is unique and resonates with younger and older Iowans and cuts across party lines.

- Women have won 8 of the last 12 competitive Primaries in Iowa. And we’re expecting women to make-up 58-60% of the Democratic Primary electorate.
