Vance isn't an opportunist who stumbled into authoritarianism…he's an ideologue who chose it deliberately, with a coherent (if repugnant) worldview underneath.

That's actually more dangerous than Trump, who just wants mirrors and money. Vance wants to rewire the international order around a simple thesis: liberal democracy is weak, strongmen are stable, and America should pick the winning side.

The Iran deal isn't a contradiction of his anti-Iran posturing, it's the proof of concept. Humiliating defeat repackaged as diplomatic triumph, terror state legitimized, and the Lindbergh playbook updated for the podcast era.

What's missing from this piece is the harder question: who stops him? Not the Republican Party. Not a Democratic opposition that still can't articulate what it's for.

The only things that have actually checked Vance's vision so far are Ukrainian soldiers and German voters, neither of which he controls yet.

It’s up to the rest of the world to tell this freak where he can shove his authoritarian vision.

Another thing checking Vance—the universal dislike for him: Trump, the galloping buffoon was entertaining; Vance is just unpalatable.

And that isn’t changing and won’t change. Vance won’t suddenly become accepted and likable just because he isn’t Trump. He will always come off as a phony jackass because that is who he is.

Indeed—crème de la crap.

And let's not forget that Vance (or Bowman or Hamel) hopped over to Hungary in an 11th hour attempt to lend support for the country's dictator Viktor Orban. The people delivered a forceful backhanded bitch slap to Vance and left him with egg all over his beard when the dictatorial leader was soundly crushed in the April election.

For quite some time I have made the point that the VP poses a far greater danger to our country than the lazy, buffoonish, doddering, flailing man-child in the White House (what's left of it). He has learned that being a pliant chameleon can be quite rewarding. Remember, he once called Drumpf "America's Hitler" when he was a never Drumpfer and look at him now. The fact that he comes across as a sanctimonious prick who even trash talked Pope Leo XIV may be his undoing but he is sly like a fox (with apologies to foxes) and has the potential to cause even greater harm to our nation and the world.

"Trump, who just wants mirrors and money." This is the crux of the problem. 77M people thought electing a narcissist and grifter would help them and America.

The opening of the Obama Presidential Library yesterday was a reminder of what competent leadership looks like. I've been on the planet for 76 years and it is amazing to me, how quickly the United States of America has fallen, and I'm afraid, we're haven't even hit our lowest point yet.

The five alarm fire just escalated into a towering inferno. I watched that bizarre press conference. I agree entirely with Johan. Vance is the real danger. Trump was a tool, one who’s obviously close to his expiry date. Impeach that bastard now. We cannot let the Christian nationalists marry us to the most feared theocracy in the world. That was my takeaway from his nonsensical press conference.

We are so screwed by these corrupt evil asshats and their dumbass followers. Trump had always said the quiet part out loud. He loves stupid people. Now we know why… and it’s not because it makes him feel like the smartest guy in the room.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤬🤬🤬

It will be interesting to see whether the Protestant Evangelical Christian Nationalists will cotton to the newly converted Roman Catholic Vance.

I will always believe religion is a man-made concept designed to control the masses. 😞

And make a pretty penny along the way.

In name only.

In the alternative, MAGA may turn on Vance as the man who capitulated to Iran.

Another “plus” given to Vance is a familiar enemy for him—the Jews. It’s not difficult to demonize Netanyahu … but now Vance can blame him for the (lost) War on Iran.

Most American politicians seem to like dictators. No messy congresses to deal with. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, UAE etc are all run by dictators that we have made our partners. Iran’s big sin is opposing Israhell’s expansion.

It's not stability that his ideology pursues, it is control and power. Even his 'conversion' to Catholicism -- Opus Dei not Vatican II -- is a career move.
