"Why voters expected a self-proclaimed business “genius” who can’t compute basic percentages to understand global macroeconomics shall forever remain the central mystery of Trump’s rise and return to power."
The solution to this mystery might be the absolute failure of the "Media" to honestly report the truth of who this man is. From Fox to the NYTs emails, emails, emails, old Biden, old Biden, old Biden.....and basically quietude on T's insane unfitness. Genius con sold across the land.
It's a lot simpler than that. A lot of Americans are bigoted shitstains, and they elected the bigoted shitstain they knew would fuck over the people they hate.
I had recently visited the meat department at a local Kroger outlet and was intrigued by the price for beef chuck. Sec Rollins posted, "This Labor Day, enjoy your favorite proteins at some of the lowest prices in 4+years….Beef chuck: $6.02/lb -- lowest since 2022...." This price was very much lower than what I observed at the grocery store.
Online, I searched with the terms "beef chuck price month year". The first reference provided the nationwide average price in July 2026. $9.38 per pound.
There was a reference link to St. Louis Federal Reserve database (FRED). A trend chart. (Link)
Sec Brooke says the price of beef chuck was higher in 2022 than today? In 2022, the average price range of chuck was $6.23-$6.45 per pound. Sure, $6.02 is less than $6.45, but WHEN, EXACTLY was the price of beef chuck $6.02 a pound? January-February 2021.
$6.02/lb, provided by Secretary of Agriculture Rollins (who has access to all of this information and more.).....“lowest since 2022” was last observed when Trump was inaugurated in 2021. A result of “The Biden economy”?
Since February 2021, with Trump tariffs, trade and immigration policies, the price of beef chuck has been rising.
Trumpflation. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Nailed it, Tom. The Kool-Aid drinkers would rather pay $6/gallon for gas, than hear the word Trans. American Farmers had steady income before DOGE cut USAID or Trump started his Tariffs on the world, killing soybean, corn and beef exports. Trump lies, Musk lies, Americans die.
If America had a responsible media... trump silences Kimmel's interview with Talarico, and trump media is silenced, again, into submission by not mentioning trumpflation. I recall a 24/7 assault on Biden each time a dozen eggs, because of a large bird flue epidemic, went up a penny. Now the media occasionally mentions record tainted beef prices. Not only is trump making food more expensive, but more dangerous to eat. The media is instead covering his every lie at his convention. The Fourth Estate is now a Big Waste.
Some AI in google is "clipping" messages from posts to which I subscribe, such as yours. I have to "unclip" to see the whole content and to be able to comment. Shouldn't this new wrinkle in access to information be investigated?
Just so ya know: yesterday the price changed at CENEX here in town: $5.55 for gas, but $7.21 for the diesel that all those farmers use to seed, fertilize, harvest, and move the wheat they grow.
I wonder if that will have any effect on the price of food?
‘Trump’s problem now is all three of his major second-term policies are raising prices across a range of commodities, but especially housing, food, and gas. Reducing the immigrant labor pool, imposing tariffs on imports, and the Iran War are costing consumers billions in higher out-of-pocket costs.’
Trump’s problem *now*? I recall arguing with a whole parcel of imbeciles on X that all of Trump’s policy ideas were inflationary. During the entire 2024 campaign. The only family-appropriate comment to add now is “told ya.”
As noted at Judd Legum's Popular Information substack today, the share of the GNP going to working people has declined to it's lowest level ever. This decline has been going on for decades, under both parties, as neither has done anything to protect workers from rapacious capitalists driven by the filthy rich and the finance bros.
Here's a FRED chart showing this decline. Note the sustained drop under Trump, similar to that under Biden for the first three years of his term before it started kicking up. Also note that every time the labor share starts to rise there's a recession (gray bars). Most of these were induced by the Fed.
Thank you for this. What a Pandora's box Trump has opened. He can't close it. He is ignorant. The world will be a better place. Hoping November eases some anxiety.

On September 7 2026, US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins posted on X that certain meat prices were lower than in 2022. (Link)

I guess so but I’m not sure how any of that works TBH

If only MAGA received this information and could absorb it.
