I wouldn't want to visit here either. My kids are planning to leave, as have many of their friends. I live in a city that is reliant upon tourism. The games were a disappointment. If not for the locals, they would have been a disaster. The city made significant investments that may not be recouped. I don't know if the comparison with Germany is direct, but there are similarities.

Yeah. I'd say that the fact that something as big as the World Cup didn't heavily boost overseas visitor numbers is pretty telling.

But that FIFA World Peace Prize! No wonder they’re jealous.

Thinking of prizes surely Trump has earned something pretty special for his services to Russia?

Of course, the rest of the world sees U.S. as untrustworthy, racist, hypocritical … for Trump hath made us in his own image.

This is the best article I’ve read on the state of America today.

Can’t say that I’m surprised, given Trump’s continued worship of Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.

I pray that we can reverse course, starting with the midterm elections.

The latest funpark "experience": A Walk Through Naziland. Be a concentration camp guard herding crowds of your least-favorite people into the ovens. Publicly humiliate your enemies by making them get down on their knees and scrub the sidewalk. Raid gutted homes and enjoy the riotous scramble for loot. Fun for the entire family.

Given the mass deportations (I don't know the numbers) I'm not surprised that the US suffered population decline. Also given that Canadians were the biggest source of visitors I'm not surprised Trump has done terrible things to US tourism. (Harming large numbers of decent low paid people in this industry but Trump only cares about billionaires). But his article showed that the damage is deeper and structural.

Money and a severely disabled adult son for whom I care has stopped this Australian from travelling. (It's a great place but also rather expensive to travel out from anyway). But in truth I wouldn't want to travel to Trump's USA anyway and there's quite a few countries I'd like to see. And not that long ago the US was on my very fanciful list of countries I'd like to see.

PS: Don't forget that the "exit" of thousands of working people is a direct hit on Social Security. Oh yeah, "they" used to pay into Social Security too. Now their contributions are gone.

When Trump gets through wrecking every monument in Washington, D.C., selling the national parks to drilling and mining industries, and encouraging tech compsnies to build huge data centers that foul the air and water, there won't be anything worth seeing.

I'd like to believe that Trump and his cronies are too corrupt and incompetent to achieve this but it's certainly a worrying possibility. I really wonder how many of the politically unengaged US population are aware of just how serious the damage that is being done to it by its government.

Mike Ruiz's avatar

Yep. If this doesn’t engage you politically, I don’t know what will.

Trump & Co: could care less. Trump's got the Argentine president eating out of his hand: Mar del Plata has excellent golfing and no scruples about your sex partner's age. Retirement land, here they come.

They are as clueless as the Magats. Heaven forbid Democrats try to get the disaffected and disinterested 30+% of the voting eligible population to cast ballots. Nope, they try to peel off moderate Republicans.
