If people read that verbatim response of Trump “explaining “ his letters, deals…..and continue to support him and declare that he is mentally fit then they should also undergo competency tests. These are not the words of a mentally fit individual, and the fact that he has both the power of his office as well as a Congress and Supreme Court majority that seem to roll over in their efforts to please him is frightening.
You are so right- every time Biden stuttered on a word (which was well known to be a lifelong struggle) the media jumped all over him- an intelligent, compassionate, competent leader! So somehow the mainstream media needs to be forced to call out Trump and his cabinet of idiots in the same way they focused on Biden!
I really wanted to see Trump's social media gibberish and the crazier parts of his rally speeches printed verbatim in the NYT or the Post during the election. They could have put it side by side with Kamala's so no one could accuse them of being "liberal," and maybe it would have filtered into some people's consciousness that he is absolutely deranged. Instead, the mainstream media paraphrased almost everything. I don't watch TV news and if it wasn't for people like Aaron R. and the clips from Bluesky (and the old twitter), I wouldn't know the full extent of his cognitive deficits or even how cruel he is.
Once this mess is behind us and the Democrats control Congress, one of their first priorities should be to return tariff management to Congress. Having a single person determining the cost of tariffs is madness.
I truly do not understand how we continue to learn about Trump’s madness, incompetence, ignorance, and mental disorders and we do nothing.
How is our entire government so corrupt, cowardly, and impotent?
Yes, indeed, if an elected Democrat did even one of the things Trump does or said one nonsensical thing as Trump does several times daily, the Repubs would be champing at the bit, impeaching and arresting that Dem.
In addition to the pain to come from Drumpf's lunacy and total ignorance about how tariffs work and who will pay for them (um, we will) if they ever materialize, there is much more to come. The cruel impact of the hugely unpopular Big Bad Bill is looming including draconian cuts to Medicaid and the harm they will cause to millions of our most vulnerable citizens, unprecedented funding for ICE, explosion of the deficit, reduction in tax revenue of $5 trillion and attacks on the judicial branch to name a few. We often say that "cruelty is the point" when it comes to the actions of this regime/junta and that is certainly true. Apparently, with the tariff nonsense, they are trying to make our country the laughing stock of the world and they are succeeding in doing so. And, the long dark journey into night continues.
Dang, even the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off explained this:
Economics Teacher: In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.
"‘Do you wanna, do you wanna play ball? This is what you have to pay.’ So, we’re, as far as I’m concerned, we’re done. We’re sending out letters to various countries, telling them how much tariffs they have to pay. Some will maybe adjust a little bit depending if they have a, you know, cause."
I'm getting blisters on my fingers from keyboarding this comment so many times, but once again I'm obliged to say: The nations whose exports are subject to tariffs do NOT "PAY" any of the increased resulting costs. American importers and eventually consumers will pay those costs. The least Trump's sane economic advisers (if he still has any) can do is get him to shut up and stop exposing his economic ignorance. But I guess that's too much to ask...
With Trump's activities and pronouncements everything is chaotic, out of focus and stream of consciousness. We do know that 1) Tariffs don't work the way Trump seems to think.2) it is always a bad idea to bully sovereign nations, especially when they're your allies. 3) Trump's tariff shenanigans are bad for the markets and bad for the dollar. 4) Trump is undeniably has cognitive impairment beyond that of the normal decline of aging.
It is time he should be lawfully removed from office and given medical treatment.
A toxic narcissist with dementia and his magat-SCOTUS and chickenshit repuglikkkan congress are destroying the US, purposefully. trump's family and his main toadies continue to get MORE obscenely rich, with market manipulation, and none of 'em give a rat's ass about this country. Heartland magats are cheering on Alligator Auschwitz and the videos of weeping Latinos being dragged out of their doctor's visits as their children sob. It's a regular selfishness festival as the country burns.
All this tough-guy posturing—who’s it for? Nobody believes Donny TACO anymore … even, possibly, MAGA. And where is Peter Navarro, architect of this tariff nonsense?
Sad to be at this point, but I honestly think the best thing would be a rapid and catastrophic implosion to shock America's system. This trajectory of destructive, insane and malicious ignorance, incompetence, dishonesty, and corruption cannot continue. We're headed for disaster, so best not to draw it out. I'm not sure what will emerge on the other side, but this has to stop.
The mentally ill Trump is a perfect useful idiot for the people behind Project 2025. He is malleable, gullible and stupid. There's no way he's the mastermind behind this fascist takeover. And conveniently, his destruction of the US economy and alienation of our allies helps to weaken our society and national security. We're in trouble.
Did Ms. BA in Communications actually READ it? It’s outrageous. Grammar, punctuation, run on sentences? Yikes. Who let this go out? This is why he’s so dangerous.
When you call or write your Republican representatives you need to quote some of Trump's nonsense and specifically ask if they support his tariffs (or anything else). Mention that since you don't hear them speaking against Trump you have to assume they agree with him, that they have no understanding of economics and you can't possibly vote for someone who doesn't understand economics. You can also throw in that they have no understanding, or care, about the physical and mental harm they're causing. We need to put this on their shoulders.
Why are they letting Trump write the tariff letters himself? I thought Susie Wiles supposedly had the White House locked down and was running their playbook efficiently. Then Trump sends out these idiotic letters, riddled with mistakes, making no economic sense, and full of Stupid Capital LETTERS!!
It’s almost like she is setting him up to fail. Is something going on? Maybe JD is getting ready to step in?

Too bad legacy media won't cover his mental fitness the way they covered Biden.
Trump Derangement Syndrome is real … also infecting the six SCOTUS rubber stamps.

It's a cult. It does not function on logic or intellect. It is not possible to persuade people away from MAGA.
Once this mess is behind us and the Democrats control Congress, one of their first priorities should be to return tariff management to Congress. Having a single person determining the cost of tariffs is madness.
It sure is if that single person is Donald Trump!
WTF, this is the guy who's cult followers want to put on Mount Rushmore🤮
Preferably in a tent atop Teddy’s forehead.
What is wrong with us??
I truly do not understand how we continue to learn about Trump’s madness, incompetence, ignorance, and mental disorders and we do nothing.

And yet… and still… we have to put up with this?
Classic cult.
You need to read the Substack called the Rational League. Everyone should.

This is Trump striving (and succeeding) to constantly stay in the spotlight.
