Once this mess is behind us and the Democrats control Congress, one of their first priorities should be to return tariff management to Congress. Having a single person determining the cost of tariffs is madness.

If people read that verbatim response of Trump “explaining “ his letters, deals…..and continue to support him and declare that he is mentally fit then they should also undergo competency tests. These are not the words of a mentally fit individual, and the fact that he has both the power of his office as well as a Congress and Supreme Court majority that seem to roll over in their efforts to please him is frightening.

Too bad legacy media won't cover his mental fitness the way they covered Biden.

You are so right- every time Biden stuttered on a word (which was well known to be a lifelong struggle) the media jumped all over him- an intelligent, compassionate, competent leader! So somehow the mainstream media needs to be forced to call out Trump and his cabinet of idiots in the same way they focused on Biden!

In addition to the pain to come from Drumpf's lunacy and total ignorance about how tariffs work and who will pay for them (um, we will) if they ever materialize, there is much more to come. The cruel impact of the hugely unpopular Big Bad Bill is looming including draconian cuts to Medicaid and the harm they will cause to millions of our most vulnerable citizens, unprecedented funding for ICE, explosion of the deficit, reduction in tax revenue of $5 trillion and attacks on the judicial branch to name a few. We often say that "cruelty is the point" when it comes to the actions of this regime/junta and that is certainly true. Apparently, with the tariff nonsense, they are trying to make our country the laughing stock of the world and they are succeeding in doing so. And, the long dark journey into night continues.

This is Trump striving (and succeeding) to constantly stay in the spotlight.

With Trump's activities and pronouncements everything is chaotic, out of focus and stream of consciousness. We do know that 1) Tariffs don't work the way Trump seems to think.2) it is always a bad idea to bully sovereign nations, especially when they're your allies. 3) Trump's tariff shenanigans are bad for the markets and bad for the dollar. 4) Trump is undeniably has cognitive impairment beyond that of the normal decline of aging.

It is time he should be lawfully removed from office and given medical treatment.

What is wrong with us??

I truly do not understand how we continue to learn about Trump’s madness, incompetence, ignorance, and mental disorders and we do nothing.

How is our entire government so corrupt, cowardly, and impotent?

Yes, indeed, if an elected Democrat did even one of the things Trump does or said one nonsensical thing as Trump does several times daily, the Repubs would be champing at the bit, impeaching and arresting that Dem.

And yet… and still… we have to put up with this?

Dang, even the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off explained this:

Economics Teacher: In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

"‘Do you wanna, do you wanna play ball? This is what you have to pay.’ So, we’re, as far as I’m concerned, we’re done. We’re sending out letters to various countries, telling them how much tariffs they have to pay. Some will maybe adjust a little bit depending if they have a, you know, cause."

I'm getting blisters on my fingers from keyboarding this comment so many times, but once again I'm obliged to say: The nations whose exports are subject to tariffs do NOT "PAY" any of the increased resulting costs. American importers and eventually consumers will pay those costs. The least Trump's sane economic advisers (if he still has any) can do is get him to shut up and stop exposing his economic ignorance. But I guess that's too much to ask...

A toxic narcissist with dementia and his magat-SCOTUS and chickenshit repuglikkkan congress are destroying the US, purposefully. trump's family and his main toadies continue to get MORE obscenely rich, with market manipulation, and none of 'em give a rat's ass about this country. Heartland magats are cheering on Alligator Auschwitz and the videos of weeping Latinos being dragged out of their doctor's visits as their children sob. It's a regular selfishness festival as the country burns.
