This regime isn’t just incompetent, it’s operationally moronic at every level.

Trump started an unauthorized war without consulting allies, ignored his own Joint Chiefs warning Iran would close Hormuz, then acts shocked when Iran closed Hormuz. Now he’s demanding NATO clean up his mess while Russia feeds Iran targeting intel that’s killing American troops…oh, and Trump won’t criticize Putin.

The sheer F ing stupidity: Calling Hormuz “their territory” because countries get oil through it.

Demanding China help when China isn’t in NATO. Threatening NATO members if they don’t join his illegal war while simultaneously threatening to invade Denmark (a NATO member) over Greenland.

Navy calls the Strait an Iranian “kill box,” refuses escort duty, but Trump demands other countries send their ships into the meat grinder he created.

Who’s the biggest fool now?!

Meanwhile: Russia gets $140M/day from lifted sanctions, oil $100/barrel benefiting Putin, Patriots depleted that Ukraine needs, European allies fracturing. Every outcome benefits Russia. Trump still won’t say Putin’s name.

This isn’t 4D chess. These are the dumbest people ever handed authority—-malignant narcissist sexual abuser executing oligarchical extraction while wearing governance as costume, surrounded by sycophants too incompetent to see they’re Putin’s useful idiots.

The whole regime looks exactly as stupid as it is.

P.S. If you are still working for this regime, recognize you are the problem, you are a cancer.

Also, I understand that they went into this with no mine sweepers available. Also, the US has around 4 of them, while EU has around 150 is what I understand. Don't know if that is true. They are in use though protecting Europe from Russia, also a warmongering nation. The Russia thing has the EU pissed off.

China is getting a pass through the Strait of Hormuz, because Iran is giving them out to people who pay for them. In fact, Iran said people have to pay using Chinese currency, so China and Russia benefit from this. Countries who get a pass from Iran can get through. Waiting to see more people jump ship. Hope the Marines are wise enough to do what the Navy is doing which is refuse to do Trump's death knell bidding. Trump is like Hitler sending men to almost certain death in Iran. For what? To enrich him, his family and his friends.

I was at an anti-war rally the other day here in Germany. Here is a piece I wrote which is mostly pictures.

Trump has 2 contradictory goals here. One, he wants to war profiteer, which requires him to make this a never-ending war; two, he wants to regain his popularity, which requires him to end the war. I don't think he is going to have both even if he prevents all US media from reporting on the war except to tell his lies.

Yes, every outcome benefits Russia. It wouldn't be a surprise if this was planned by Russia and executed by Putin's client state America.

In a chapter of categories of "cognitive effects" there are those WSJ style images of Trump, cabinet members, agency heads, etc... clearly designated "Dunning-Kruger Effect" specimens.

Your article is quite welcome, since the bloated, fascist trump is committing treason and it gets little no attention from crappy corporate media, and the dimwitted White House press corps. Why arena trump, whitcoff and kushner being held accountable for helping Russia, who is helping Iran target US personnel, US bases, and US allies. Isn't that the definition of treason? Corporate media ignores this coddling of enemies as US military members die putin must have loads of kompromat on the criminal in thief trump… U.S. Constitution (Article III, Section 3), consists only of levying war against the United States or adhering to their enemies by giving them aid and comfort.

trump and company make Russia's kleptocracy wealthy and put greater strains on Americans. The most incompetent people are trying to manage the most complex of issues. This is not a proud moment for America and a steep price will be paid for electing the pedophile friend in thief to a seocnd term because the price of eggs were too high and pronoun paranoia...

David J. Sharp's avatar

Treason, yes. But to Trump there is no betrayal because he believes, like the song, that he “Is the World”.

MPT's avatar

That is true in his own demented, deloused, deranged mind.

Trump has spent his entire life committing acts of aggression against others and expecting to be bailed out. Unfortunately, that is a trait he shares with far too many Americans. Remember how Bush and his administration lashed out at France for refusing to support their war of aggression in Iraq? "Cheese eating surrender monkeys," "Axis of weasels," and of course "Freedom Fries!"? Remember Tom Friedman saying the quiet part out loud? "We are doing this because we can." Since WWII, in which we definitely did NOT win the victory over Hitler (Joe Stalin did that) we have suffered from national megalomania about our all-powerful military might and the righteousness of our ideals, even when we are not living up to them. This national toxic narcissism will end when we are clearly no longer a great power, and Trump is well on his way to making that a reality.

David J. Sharp's avatar

Donald Trump as the face of “American Exceptionalism”? Of White Supremacy? No wonder the world - including Russia - is either laughing … or pitying.

Sue's avatar

The more Trump boasts about his genetic superiority, the harder the whole world laughs. at him.

Answers the question: What if the Confederacy won?

Susan Kain's avatar

With the election of Trump (and MAGA), the Confederacy did win--for now.

In Trump I there were rumors that RUS had a bounty for every American soldier killed in Afghanistan. He called the fake news, which is his go-to lie whenever he feels threatened. Trump is a traitor.

The photo with this article sickened me. I think that the Iran war is a distraction to deplete our stores of ammunition and to try to draw Europe in as well to distract and deplete and delay their ability to support Ukraine. America appears to be a client state of Russia. Putin must be rejoicing in his success in corrupting our country. Have we ever fallen hard. Sickening.

Lisa, kudos to you for zeroing in on perhaps the most damning Trump treason. And I mean that literally and legally.

Treason is such an extremely dangerous crime against our nation and our Constitution that "We the People" (acting as the supreme legislative body for the U.S. to "provide for the common defence" and to "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity") actually defined treason in our Constitution: "Treason against the United States, shall consist" of "levying War against" the U.S. "or in adhering to [our] Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." Trump is knowingly and willfully doing exactly that.

The People also commanded that "[t]he President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason," and the President has no "Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States" in "Cases of Impeachment."

The People also emphasized in our Constitution that "Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason" in federal legislation. So Congress enacted 18 U.S. Code Section 2381 (Treason) and said that "Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere" commits treason "and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

Trump is causing the U.S. to shovel billions of dollars into the coffers of a country (Russia) that Trump knows is helping another country (Iran) kill Americans, attack actual or virtual American territory (including at least one embassy), and attack and threaten other U.S. interests with such tremendous potential to cripple the U.S. economically that Trump, himself, has asked many other other nations (including China) for help (against Iran and Russia).

Trump is causing the U.S. to shovel billions of dollars at Russia and Putin at a time when Trump, himself, caused sanctions to be imposed on Russia because Putin already proved Russia to be a great and dangerous enemy, directly and indirectly threatening a vital alliance (NATO) that was formed to defend the U.S. against people precisely like Putin.

Susan Kain's avatar

Yes, now that the U.S. is at war, the charge of "treason" can attach.

And thank you for adding to Lisa Needham's article instead of rehashing it.

Daniel Dale of CNN says that Trump stories that have the speaker calling him ”sir” are all a figment of his imagination. This one probably is as well.

I suspect Trump's thinking is significantly manipulated by others. The question to me is who and will they still be influencing President Vance (even Trump seems to think he won't make it to January 20, 2029)?

David J. Sharp's avatar

Unless it’s Vivian, there should be no “President Vance” …

She'd probably do a better job even though she's been dead since 1979.

Some 250 years ago we also were faced with a mad king.

David J. Sharp's avatar

Why does Trump idolize Putin? It’s not just the domination, not just the power to kill at will, not just “the world at my feet” … it’s that Vlad is one of the richest men ever.

"We're always there for NATO. We're helping them with Ukraine. It's got an ocean in between us,” he said. “It doesn't affect us, but we've helped them. It would be interesting to see what country wouldn't help us with a very small endeavor, which is just keeping the strait open.”

This is, of course, a lie. Since the second Trump administration began, aid from the US to Ukraine has dropped to ZERO. Trump World and reality continue to diverge...

Scott Whitmire's avatar

This whole war sounds like something Putin and Netanyahu cooked up and convinced Trump to go along. You couldn’t plan a scenario that benefits both Israel and Russia as much as this has.

Steven Branch's avatar

Now, Liz, you are forgetting that US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright bragged that the US Navy had successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz recently. Ooooh, that's right, the post was deleted within 30 minutes and the WH quickly denied the lie.

Okay, we should all rest easy because the Secretary of War Crimes assured everyone that the strait remains open for transit except for the fact that those uncooperative Iranians attack multiple vessels passing through the strait and are planting sea mines. The dumbass stated that there is "no need to worry" about all of this. I feel much better now, don't you?

The utter incompetency of these and all of the other clowns in the Cabinet would be laughable if their ineptitude didn't result in tragic life and death consequences.

In theory, if seriously attacked, Turkey could request collective action under Article 5 but the odds of NATO actually invoking Article 5 are near zero. No idea the politics of this and if Iran has any incentive to try to drive/test NATO into the mess. This would be a win for Russia though.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/13/world/middleeast/turkey-nato-iran-missile.html

Turkey shares a border with Iran and is within the geography of NATO's mutual defense pledge.

Edit: I'm surprised I don't see this talked about more so I must be missing something when I just look at a map and think, well that's bad a NATO country borders Iran.

Alexandra's avatar

This isn't over yet. Perhaps Putin made a deal with Iran to give targeting intelligence in exchange for them drawing NATO into a Middle East War. Attacking Turkey could be step 2 if getting NATO involved in the strait doesn't work. I wouldn't put it past him.

Scott Whitmire's avatar

Trump’s first major error with NATO is confusing helping defend *against* an attack versus helping to *mount* an attack. His second is forgetting that NATO joined us in Afghanistan.
