This entire Jerome Powell episode reinforces the old adage "there's no honor among thieves." When things start to go south, they start blaming each other for the mess THEY created. Let the circular firing squad commence.

The regime/junta is going after yet another Boy Scout. First, it was James Comey. Now, it's Jerome Powell. Let's not forget that Mr. Powell 's leadership of the Fed during the COVID inflationary years resulted in the WSJ dubbing the US economy the "envy of the world" in 2024.

Now, an out of control mental midget (with apologies to the small in stature) and dictator wants to fire Mr. Powell and replace him with a puppet who will grant the orange-faced lunatic's every wish. This is a recipe for the complete and utter destruction of our economy and perhaps that of the entire world. It could usher in a recession (depression?) the likes of which have never been seen before.

Not willing to simply roll over and play dead, Mr. Powell did us all a favor Sunday by speaking out calmly but forcefully against the outrageous criminal investigation by the Injustice Department.

Who is next on the ever-growing hit list? Stay tuned.

“Remember back in 2017 when Trump’s supporters said he was playing 10-dimensional chess?” 😆 😞Seems like a lifetime ago… Thank you, Liz and Public Notice.❤️

I doubt that Trump even understands the card games "Slap Jack" or "War"

the US has a government of malicious buffoons. It's awful that they are so malicious, vindictive,, vengeful and spiteful but thank heavens they are buffoons. Buffoons tend not to succeed very much in carrying out their plans.

And 'incompetent' in multiple respects.

I suspect it’s true that “Main DOJ” didn’t know in detail what Pirro had planned for Powell. Trump appointees often seem to view their role as orchestrating extreme actions to try to get Daddy’s attention. We see the same dynamic in Cabinet meetings. They’re all fighting to see who gets the most praise. It’s not surprising at all that once it looks like the elites’ money is endangered, the finger-pointing and backtracking are swift.

Trump operates like a Mob Boss. He got his early training from the top lawyer to the Mob Bosses (Roy Cohn). Being in the real estate business and getting buildings built in New York, Trump no doubt had interactions with said Mob Bosses. The slightly slimy side of the high profile social life in New York City is where Trump partied and did his social climbing (where Roy Cohn operated too).

The standard practice of Mob Bosses is to maintain "Plausible deniability", meaning they say something like "take care of Powell" of maybe just "Powell ... is a problem ..." and the minions of the Boss KNOW that means they are supposed to make their Boss's problems go away. If they fail in their mission, THEY become a problem for someone else to 'handle'.

Do not ever think these people acted against Trump's desires, but failure is NEVER the fault of the boss. That is how the system works. That is why the boss maintains Plausible Deniability. Pirro was already incompetent, so when she follows the directive from an incompetent against a person with more power than either of them realized (because they are incompetent) of course it will fail and of course the scape goat to be accused is obvious, even if Bondi told her to do it.

Have you ever noticed how everything good is due to Trump, and everything bad is due to somebody other than Trump, and how he is never responsible for ANYTHING?

Deborah solleveld's avatar

Isn’t that what he said? I’m not responsible for anything?

Douglas Gilligan's avatar

I remember during Covid, one of his interviews, and Trump made it clear, he was not responsible for anything. It was clear from context and how he said it that he truly meant that as an absolute statement that he was very comfortable with.

Just as once, I think it was shortly before he took office in 2016, he told in an interview that when he call something fake news, he means it is news he does not like. The man lies all the time, but he leaks the truth, but you have to listen for it and he rarely repeats the leaks. But he repeats the lies all the time.

Jerome Powell and the other members of the Fed are unbelievably smart in the domain of finance and markets. Just that makes them an enemy of TFG. Stupid is as stupid does.

Here’s my view.

Money talks. We saw the Sinclair-Nexstar debacle about Jimmy Kimmel. And, the other day we saw the reaction by bankers and economists around the world come out publicly about Trump’s stated intention to get rid of Jerome Powell. What does all this tell you? Money is absolutely the most powerful tool against Trump.

What I suggest is the following. Organize an economic boycott that’s doable by the millions of people who oppose Trump. Get entities like the NAACP, AARP, ACLU, Indivisible, MoveOn, and unions to use their resources to schedule and publicize the plan, and encourage their members to participate. What would be the plan? On consecutive Saturdays and Sunday do not spend online, at big box stores, do not buy gasoline and food at grocery stores or Target or Walmart. Do not go to restaurants, movie theaters, any venue that offers entertainment; and do not go to automobile dealerships. Do no banking online or at the ATM. Deprive these companies and institutions of your monetary involvement. Do not open apps like Facebook, YouTube, Amazon. Deprive these outfits of their advertising revenue coming from their ads on these platforms.

You get the idea, right? Recognition of money power of the American people will shout loudly in boardrooms, and at offices and kitchen tables. And, the beauty of it is that all people have to do is to do nothing that involves money. Plus, there’s no need to fear retribution. No ICE or border patrol agents will be knocking down your door. There will be no one that they can specifically target.

Do any of these suggestions on Saturdays and Sundays for weeks or months, till finally the shareholders and corporatists and business owners howl at the Congress to rein in Trump, and Trump actually stops his rein of economic and physical terror against the American people, Venezuela, Cuba, Greenland by using UCE, border patrol, and the military.

Be creative. Come up with your own plan to hold back your attention and your money.

If this is not the time to do this, I ask, when? When it’s too late?

An interesting sideshow: Brave MAGA Blames Others. Pete Hegseth spends millions to lecture true warriors on manliness … then throws an admiral under the bus for following his lead—a stunt Trump is famous for, most lately puting the blame on Jeanine.

Personally I have had a long term problem with how our "Federal Reserve" system of manages our economy, but it does manage to limit the damage to our economy and Powell is a true believer, and competent at his job. It is also true that Trump would be the WORST possible person to have making those decisions.

Trump ran casinos into bankruptcy. Ran a fraudulent 'University'. Ran a fraudulent Charity. Ran a Fraudulent Business based on lies. The list of his criminality and abuses of power would take a large book to cover, even as brief summaries of each. Trump lies all the time. Trump is grossly incompetent. Trump cheats at everything, including Golf - all the time. Trump famously has no concept of service or honoring oaths. Trump is extremely corrupt, selling pardons for instance.

No sane person would entrust Trump with running a lemonade stand, let alone the key to the world economy.

I do sincerely hope the Republican Senators listen to their business benefactors enough to ensure ANY nominees to the Fed are thoroughly vetted as having NO loyalty to Trump.

Please keep up the good work. Do keep an eye on the crypto bros. They have a chance to make money and also grift if the Fed and the US dollar gets wobbly. Now that Trump and family and others connected to this MAGA regime have crypto operations, it may not just be Trump wanting low interest rates to goose the economic stats, though he surely wants that. Would be wonderful if Congress and/or courts put an end to the massive money Trump is making from crypto and its opportunities for corruption.

Makes me wonder:

When SCOTUS wakes up and stops declaring the Unitary Executive theory means the president can break every law.

When Republicans in Congress wake up and stop giving Trump ALL their powers.

When all but those filled with hate, who follow their leader Trump, will wake up and realize that while the chaos and pain has not impacted them ... yet ... that damage is being done by Trump to all that holds things together in this nation.

It appears to me that as long as most people are not directly impacted in their personal lives, too many of them are willing to let Trump do whatever he wants, no matter how crazy, greedy, demented, stupid, incompetent, evil...

Trump is a bully by nature, his whole life. Also a con man, criminal, Chronic Liar, rapist, best buddies with a child molester... and can never be appeased, for even if you give him everything he wants, he will keep asking more of you, worse things from you, corrupting you inch by inch until you either break away or become as evil as he is through and through.

Trump cares about himself, First, Last and Always and Trump's primary concern is staying out of jail. Certainly his greed for money and power and fame and his never ending hunger for powerful people to submit to him are motivations, but the buttons that trigger him the most is anything that brings him a step closer to jail. Steps such as impeachment, which means he is afraid of losing control of Congress, which means losing the elections in November... So he has decided he has to escalate control so that elections are not held. Sure, we can be confident that won't happen, but trump is afraid and working on a deadline and so he escalates war at home -War on Blue States with ICE, because the national guard and the Military won't do it for him any more. And he escalates war on other nations to distract the people, which is an old political trick...

But Trump is incompetent and hired incompetents and all the competent people are either not listening to Trump or are quitting from the government. The courts are no longer trusting Trump or the DoJ or any federal agency under his control. Only SCOTUS seems corrupt enough to try and appease Trump, apparently eager to become obsolete under his dictatorship.

Trump's derangement, dementia, incompetence, criminality in running the Government is what is slowing his seizure of control over the nation. But Trump is powerfully motivated and he is nowhere near done trying to make elections obsolete.

So the question remains, who is waking up? or will too many 'sleep in' until they are too late to do what needs to be done in a timely manner?
