My prayers go with all the parents and children of the school, and all who have suffered through gun violence. You will find a soft piano playing, amazing grace that goes to America 🇺🇸 today.

Not really out of nowhere. Trump has said that flag burning should be a crime multiple times over the 10 years he’s been in politics.

It’s just that this time, it gave his aides an idea for another EO to keep him busy signing, like giving a little kid crayons when the family goes out to eat.

Or it's something to distract his supporters who are already fired up about Trump concealing information about Epstein.

When will our country finally enact sensible gun laws? It is heartbreaking to constantly read about innocent people, & especially youngsters, being slaughtered. When will it be enough?

Amen Jean, but I fear it'll never happen. Frankly if I was a Canadian the idea that most of my local criminals and unsocialized men would have ready access to firearms ALONE would have made me strongly uninterested in becoming part of the US. (Written from sensible gun-restricted Australia).

Thank you for another great piece.

I am ever so sorry to hear that the school shooting occurred and impacted you and your family.

It comes with a level of grief that, while your children were not casualties physically, is an emotional loss that must be profound.

My heart breaks for you and all the families with young children heading off to their beginning weeks of the school year. None of this should ever be normalized.

When will enough be enough??? Will it ever be with this death party?

One way to stop this is to vote them all out!

As Jay Carey physically burned the flag this administration/regime is burning down all the flag stands for. This is the fire that will incite the riots of outrage.

Peace to all.

I've said it on another site (I think), to flag burners: Don't burn the red-white-blue flag with its stars and stripes. Burn, instead, the bastardized flags that show up on people's butts, on their plates, on their napkins (I've stopped buying those), and most especially the flag they use with POS's faces and words. Those deserve to be burned to ashes. And their destruction will get under POS's already thin skin.

I'm surprised the supine Justice Department hasn't set about charging someone over flag burning. I wouldn't put anything beyond this Supreme Court. I'm coming to suspect to predict what it will come up with is a job for psychologists (who specialize in bigots) rather than legal scholars.

Hope the Rupar parents recover from the hour of super high stress reasonably soon.

Liz, you were right to start out highlighting Trump's statements as he signed the executive order:

“It’s called death! What happens when you burn a flag is the area goes crazy.” “When you burn the American flag, it incites riots at levels people have never seen before.”

But you're wrong to think Trump was merely blabbering incoherently. This is a good example of how Trump calls dangerous people to dangerous action. Just as he did on January 6, here Trump provided another example of Trump, himself, using his own words in an emotionally charged situation to incite violence. Suggestions like this are how people like Trump get things done.

Aaron, I saw your post on Threads yesterday and it broke my heart. I know the area well, and as a former Holy Name parent, I know the excitement of that first all-school Mass. Trauma is far-reaching, and for Minnesota, the trauma of this summer, followed by previous traumas is so much to bear. I'm glad your kids are safe. Know that you have thousands of people who wish you and your family peace.

Aaron, I am desperately sorry that you, your wife, and your children experienced the nightmare at Annuciation School. Thank God your children are OK, physically. Praying for the families going through the worst that can ever happen: the murder of one's beloved child. The parents of the wounded children are going through their own hell. Praying for their children, as well.
