This is the stuff of Marching like the South Koreans did and saying "HELL NO!" The youth must be made to understand how important it is.

Got it. Make the rich richer. Make everyone else poorer. Rinse and repeat. Complain about those who won't submit. How about mass deportations starting with the MuskRat? Trump's family history is pretty squishy. Deport him too.

The hard question is where? It's hard to imagine anyone really wants them. Sounds like a three-hour cruise is the only option.

Now THAT'S a fantasy I could buy into! Could it include sharks and boats with electric batteries, please?

Huh...I wonder why I somehow doubt the ability of the Democratic leadership to grasp any of this, let alone prepare to "play their cards" carefully and correctly.

I have every intention of to ferociously resist Trump's attempts to remake our country into a cheap facsimile of those authoritarian oligarchies that he so admires (I say cheap because Trump himself is a cheap, cheesy version of a supposed authoritarian leader)....but we really, desperately need a more vigorous version of our own Dem leadership.

I stated last year that this would be the plan:

Keep everyone on the plan that are there- securing their support - until the fund runs dry.

Shut down new revenue by eliminating payroll taxes giving younger people a tax cut securing their support.

Supporting repeal of the WPE will secure other support.

Now the fund runs dry and the need to eliminate the fund becomes so much easier.

Then the SS Advantage program will be proposed.

Once more, shared costs will become your costs.

I wonder what would happen if all of us who've paid into the system demand a refund plus interest. Probably nothing but I have a rich fantasy life. :D

Republicans do not believe that government should help the "little people". They do not want their taxes to help anyone further down the food chain. They do believe that government should help the wealthy and corporations. They've totally bought into Milton Friedman who said that it was the social responsibility of corporations to maximize their profits, and they cling to trickle-down economics even though it's been debunked, because it feeds their beliefs. Democrats need to keep pounding on this fact because too many voters don't believe this about Republicans. The wage cap on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid should be removed. There's no reason that higher income people should only be taxed on some of their wages. And, if Republicans start talking about socialism have them take a look at the Internal Revenue Code and all of the statutes that they support and that provide deductions and credits to businesses.

Thank you DL, particularly for the reminder of the history of these attempts on our social safety net. This is sure to wake up a lot of people, even younger folks with their parents to still care for as well as their own present and future well-being and the ability to retire. For many of us who have perhaps been able to set up retirement accounts etc maybe they are okay.. maybe. But so many, dare I say Trump voters, have not. Well that should get attention... (here we go around again..the *politically* uneducated need to learn the hard way).

I would bet real money, not crypto, that people-- you know those populists- would get upset that billionaires are in charge now. Billionaires have no idea what it's like to scrape by, get sick, support a family. But they are in charge of cutting. Trump (Time interview.. see Berlatsky) is changing his con tune to suit the wider audience. From the cover photo on the surface he looks like he means business and it's not a happy look. It says revenge. He's gonna let his unfit associates do the dirty work (if the Congress approves them). I agree Democrats will have opening and should shadow all this with opposition and resistance LOUDLY but also by educating.

From the article: "His proposal faced immediate backlash, particularly from retired and soon to be retired voters who formed a key portion of the his coalition."

This is what I never understand about the GOP push to cut these programs. Do they seriously believe that none of their voters are beneficiaries of SS and Medicare? And why do people keep voting for Republicans who threaten this every election cycle?

Also, thank you for calling DOGE a "pseudo" department. More people need to know that it's fake.

I'm certain the majority of Idiot MAGAts are directly in line to feel their leaders' intent to whack them in the kneecaps.

Yet their devotion to the very greedy-gusses who tell us their intentions to do this is beyond comprehension!

MAGAts, why not just go ahead now and sign your livelihood over to your favorite billionaire.

Heck, take the offensive and advocate Social Security for All. That’s a much easier sell than Medicare for All.
