I have to admit that I hadn't specifically thought about this. I know that women pay more for many items. When my daughter was little I bought T-shirts for her in the boys' department because they were less expensive. Once she was old enough to realize what I was doing she wouldn't wear the boys' T-shirts (we are so overly gendered). But, I never thought about the additional cost for Black women, even though Black women have always paid additional costs.

Thanks so much for engaging with this! Yes, it's something that it's super obvious until you zoom out and realize a lot of things in our economy are structured this way. Women bear a higher cost than men, but the steepness of that cost varies across racial lines.

This is #TheDoubleTax and I'm publishing a book about it in September: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/734115/the-double-tax-by-anna-gifty-opoku-agyeman-foreword-by-chelsea-clinton/

This has raised my blood pressure! Like Patricia I vaguely knew it but to have it spelled out like this is infuriating!

To Republicans - not just MAGA but core GOP - the thinking is, Women are damn lucky to vote, enough already! Just lie back and think of the Gulf of America.

David, I'd rather not think of the Gulf of Moronastan and the hurricane season coming up. With all the DOGE cuts to NOAA and NWS, we won't even have weather vanes left to predict the weather!

I won’t mourn the passing of Florida; I will wave goodbye as they sail into said Gulf.

Hey! I’m as Blue as Blue can be and I live in Blue Tallahassee! If I sail into anywhere, it will be the Gulf of Mexico. And I hope I make it to Mexico

I would just love to read what Joni Ernst would have to say about the inequity.
