And here we are once again- and the red states have free reign to put the lives of women at extreme risk while they push their lies and misinformation about a drug that has been proven to be safe and effective, the deliberate confusion regarding what is considered an emergency which allows a hospital to provide a life saving abortion. I am thankful for the fact that I live in Washington state where our governor is determined to protect the rights of women.
It’s rage-inducing. The pro-life organizations are anything but and they care not a whit whether women die after a pregnancy goes terribly wrong. It seems like they want us to die. I highly recommend Jessica Valenti’s newsletter Abortion, Every Day. She writes about what’s going on with repro rights at all levels—local, state, and national. It’s important reading.
I live in MO. Josh Hawley, one of many Republican politicians who have grossly embarrassed this state, is a self-serving sycophant. While he's saying that Congress can't cut Medicaid he will vote to cut Medicaid if that's what the party wants. He's grandstanding and, as are many, many other people, hiding behind religion (but only his religious beliefs) to justify his actions. So, not only is he pushing for a national abortion ban by trying to ban mifepristone, he'll vote to cut Medicaid to make certain that pregnant women who want to have a child will not receive the medical care they need. There is no logic and no consistency to their arguments, only hatred of everyone who isn't in their social-economic class, who isn't white, and who doesn't believe in their version of religion. FYI: MO had a total abortion ban, no exceptions, until a ballot initiative passed a constitutional amendment, and returned the state to a pre-Dobbs environment. Republicans filed lawsuits. First, a state court filed an injunction to prevent Republican moves to block abortions anyway and abortions were allowed to resume under the terms of the constitutional amendment. Then, the MO Supreme Court struck that ruling down (claiming the lower court used an incorrect legal reasoning), and we're back to a ban for the time being. The Republican monopoly in the state legislature is trying to pass legislation banning abortions and wants to put the issue into a ballot initiative because, as they said, obviously we didn't know what we were voting for. Yes, too many people vote for ballot initiatives that help the people of MO, and then vote for Republicans to run the state, even when they do everything they can to defeat and/or overrule these initiatives. This defies logic.
If doctors cannot tell what's legal and what's not, the courts won't be able to say, either. So doctors should then set up a nation-wide legal defense fund and just go back to saving lives.
Not just anti-abortion, not just anti-choice … but also, seemingly, pro male sexual predation. After all, the man MAGA adulates believes grabbing genitalia and forcing kisses is actually wooing … and the get of rape or incest is to be cherished.
What is the racist logic in breathlessly decrying the declining number of white people in the US, then designing a healthcare system that uniformly endangers women, surely to include white women? Are there special carveouts for the Whites we don’t know about, or a silent implication that the Rich Whites don’t have this problem? Is the goal 1910’s America, where the Whites died in childbirth at half the rate of non-whites? But still died?
This is important informative stuff. It should be plastered over the mainstream media. It's shameful that Michael Wild in Bunbury, Western Australia is now much better informed than a lot of Americans who follow current affairs relatively closely.
It is just plain murder to refuse necessary care for an ectopic pregnancy. The embryo could never be viable.

The west coast is a haven, indeed. Eventually, the Eye of Sauron will swing over to us, however.

Hawley going after mifepristone, of course! But how about viagra too? It promotes male sexual aggression, no?

Doctors AND hospitals. Hospital lawyers have a big say in what they will permit their doctors to do in their facilities.

Rich or not?
All signs point to “yes.”

I’m still reeling from the cruelty of these Taliban.
