To anyone praising Jeff Merkley for the 22 hours he spent on the Senate floor please read:
I have been writing emails to him every day since trump was inaugurated. He has never responded to me until the shutdown. Now every day his sends the following. How can it not be his core responsibility to respond to his constituents? He's still getting paid. How can he let his staff go unpaid and ignore those he represents? He still manages to send me email begging for campaign donations.
Thank you for your email. I appreciate you contacting me.
As of Wednesday, October 1st at 12:01 a.m., funding for the United States federal government has expired and the federal government is shutdown, though many essential functions will continue to occur.
During this shutdown, I will continue to carry out my core constitutional duties, including working to fund and reopen the government. At this time, however, my office operations are restricted to core functions to comply with the law, and our ability to respond to messages from Oregonians is limited.
Until we reopen the government and can resume normal office operations, below are several resources if you have questions or need help.
If you need help with a specific problem with a federal agency, such as help with a passport, veterans' benefits, immigration, or citizenship matters, please visit https://www.merkley.senate.gov/services/help or contact my Portland office at 503-326-3386.
While federal agencies are still performing some functions, please be aware that agencies are operating with reduced numbers of staff and are only able to carry out limited responsibilities. While it may take longer to resolve your request or issue with a federal agency, my staff will do everything they can to assist you.
Excellent title for this post--and an excellent discussion.
