Thanks for this piece!

R’s have the Court they want.

6/9 are corrupt and/or questionable.

The Court moves as/when it wants.

Note speed of Bush v Gore vs now.

Both for R candidate.

No surprise.

Liz I am so impressed with this article. Your summary of the events make everything so crystal clear. I agree with your assessment that a delay is as good as a win. I am mourning the complete collapse of our Republic. Thanks to the Republicans. Kind of hard for me not to hate them.

"If Trump can eke out a win in November, he can pardon himself and put an end to the whole prosecution."

But what if he loses? The likelihood of Trump continuing to delay all his "91 count" cases til the 2028 election seem remote, at best.

Will Trump be convicted in the coming years after Biden wins in Nov?

Will Trump see the inside of a prison cell?

Maybe wishful thinking, maybe not, but should the court end up doing the right thing and put the trial on track to begin in August or September then that would result in Trump still being on trial on Election Day or convicted days beforehand, which might actually be worse for him than if a guilty verdict had come months earlier. The MAGA propaganda industrial complex needs time to work to memory hole bad news. A week or two probably won't be long enough.

Don’t the Unholy Six even consider that their action to save Trump is an own goal, because there is no need for a Supreme Court if he is dictator?

I feel like Charlie Brown with the football. My brain is trained to believe in the Supreme Court’s role as protecting democracy. That’s changed now, but I keep forgetting and it’s a fresh shock every time. Not in a good way.

2 words…. Utter Bullshit

It’s funny how republicans cry about the “deep state” when in reality they’re the deep state. This is a very corrupt Supreme Court.

“If Trump can eke out a win in November, he can pardon himself”

And more normalization of Trump happens right in front of our eyes.

We no longer question whether a president can pardon themselves? We now just accept that they can do anything and then pardon themselves?

I guess the whole “Do Presidents have immunity?” question is moot because apparently they do.

Maybe once SCOTUS rules and the trials start up again and it’s obvious that tfg will be found guilty, Biden can offer to pardon him, he can accept and voilà. See Ford, one-term president. /s

Yes, I’m kind of old.

You quoted just part of what Vladeck said. There is room for optimism too and you cannot rule out the possibility that the SC will rule quickly and remand the case to Chutken. It is not the best outcome but it cannot be ignored.

This Supreme Court is so corrupt it’s unbelievable! They took care of the Ballot issue quickly, I simply cannot understand why they can’t take care of that POS’s immunity case Immediately also(?)! They’ve learned from the best-delay, delay, delay!
