Trump and the GOP dimbulbs like Tuberville seem to think that Trump created the COVID mRNA vaccine. Two traditional vaccines were emergency-approved 10 months after the pandemic started in China and spread globally. Seventeen months later, the first-ever mRNA vaccine was rushed into production for national vaccinations. It was highly effective and jumpstarted research into mRNA technology for treating other diseases and conditions. Tony Fauci was involved in that process all along. One might say his involvement was key to ensuring that sound science indicated safety as well as effectiveness to merit emergency FDA approval.

Trump's role in promoting new medications for epidemics has consisted mostly of bragging and taking personal credit. When re-elected, he quickly began to disrupt all NIH research with a freeze on grant money, and then brutal personnel and budget cutbacks for grants. Does that sound like Trump gives a darn about public health? Of course he does. Why else would he appoint a road-kill-eating non-PhD/MD, who promotes baseless vaccination phobias, to head HHS? Does any of this make sense to anybody with normal critical reasoning abilities? Hardly. It is demented if not insane.

The Covid vaccine (and other vaccines) do NOT contain live virus. The reaction some people have to vaccines is caused by their immune systems. Your statement is misleading and dangerous.

Just like to add that the GOP's vilification of mRNA vaccines applies to future mNRA vaccines for other diseases with an adverse effect on health. The current chicken pox vaccine, for example, while important and necessary, is a traditional vaccine using an attenuated part of the virus. This means one can still get shingles! This means people will need the Shingrex vaccine in the future. While the FDA did approve an mNRA vaccine for the flu, their approval limited the vaccine to those over 55. The GOP band of idiots - Trump, Paul, RFK, Jr, Tuberville, Johnston, etc.- are disastrous for the health of the US.

Covid vaccines did not contain the virus itself at all; they contain manufactured components of the virus such as the spike protein the virus uses to enter cells. That is what would trigger an immune response, not the virus itself.

This misunderstanding underpins their claims that the vaccine caused the disease. We should counter their claims with the actual fact that the vaccine doesn't contain the virus itself. The technical ability to create the distinct pieces of a disease-causing organism which can trigger an immune reaction really was a brilliant insight for creating future vaccines. It is a shame no one corrects these loud mouth conspiracy theorists.

I'd suggest that this is a case of Republican operatives living in their own bubble where Fauci-bahing is seen as a good and honourable thing, which is totally out of touch with where most US citizens are today.

Yes it may fire up some of the Republican base but even then the ficitional evils of Fauci are not going to be as effective as pushing the fictional evils of Democratic politicians.

The whole exercise is a self-indulgent re hash of the wars of some years ago and is a clear sign the Republicans are totally out of touch with where the voters who decide elections are. It's a sign of the moral, intellectual and political decay of the present Republican party.

Overheard at a restaurant this week: "I used to think that the only good Repuke was a dead Repuke. Now I think many of them would make excellent organ donors."

I wonder how many of the really, really dumb q-anon inspired BS about the covid vaccine that really deranged will try to resurrect? I think they had one that each shot contains a microchip so the deep state can track you? Or that it changes your DNA?

Such fools in Congress- you never know.
