TFG and his administration is like a Monty Python skit.

From “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”:

King Arthur: I am your king.

Peasant Woman: Well, I didn't vote for you.

King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.

Peasant Woman: Well, how'd you become king, then?

King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king.

Dennis the Peasant: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. You can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!”

Basing a system of government on whatever strange women lying in ponds might say or do sounds pretty good rn

Are there ANY Republicans in the United States Senate who will reclaim their constitutional power of "Advice and Consent" by refusing to rubber stamp Mike Waltz for his consolation prize nomination to UN ambassador?

Steven Branch's avatar

Mitch, don't hold your breath waiting for the Republicans to do the right thing regarding Waltz or any other GD thing. I do, however, anticipate that the Dems will take advantage of the riches Waltz has handed them with his apparent addiction to Signalgate to let him have it.

Definitely not holding my breath, just wondering if any of them will find the backbone to stand up to Trump while they still have a choice. As it is, Republicans are making Congress irrelevant through their acquiescence.

It does not matter. Trump will get another lickspittle.. disrespecting the U.N., Trump's garbage pail. The whole administration is rotten. No saving it.

Let him nominate someone else and go through the process again. I am not interested in saving Trump or his cohort. Let's save the Constitution which Trump said he doesn't know he needs to uphold.

We keep nibbling around the edges. Whack a mole...Yes make trouble for him, but he will keep us very busy and the media flush. Trump said he is good for clicks and ratings... without him ratings would tank. He has gotten very good at living in our heads. We have to pay attention to him especially since we have given him all this power, the most we have to give one person! ( think about that!) and he needs to take more. And it's damn the Constitution.

This is insane.

It’s hard to believe that this is reality, that it isn’t a poorly written movie about a bumbling president, and his staff & advisors of toadies & idiots, and that I will wake up soon & see it’s just a bad dream. I continually ask myself how could this happen?

Living in Florida, I always saw Rubio as going whichever way the wind blows, in his desire for power & money. He once cashed in his retirement savings in the amount of $68,000 to buy a new refrigerator, replace his air conditioner, & pay for his children’s private school tuition, at a potential tax penalty of $24,000 for early withdrawal. In 2012 when he got an $800,000 advance on his book deal, he bought an $80,000 speedboat, & rented a $50,000 Audi SUV, among other such purchases. There are more examples of his poor financial decisions than these. I never voted for him, but didn’t think he was a traitor; now I know better. He’s sold his soul to gain power. I wonder if he’s happy.

Rubio not happy. He could not be. He is pathetic. Spineless sack of gelatin. He obviously thought he would be president or could be. He feigned integrity once but lost it.People could see the weakness, the fakery, as he gave it away. So what is left other than giving his soul away completely? Trump, in the recent interview, seems to be recommending him to follow him if not Vance. Then he could be the Godfather, or be VP as it may be allowed (?). Trump is planning his Machine to keep on and/or to live forever with his magic working perfectly.

Noah, your relentless evisceration of the pockmarked Mike Waltz was a delightful read. The bleached blonde hussy Ms. Bondi is indeed correct. Never. Never in the first 100 days of any presidency has there been such savagery, incompetence, cruelty, blatant unconstitutional acts all in pursuit of the vile Project 2025 slime and out and out lawlessness. And just exactly how many laws to help the American people have been passed by Congress during this period? Exactly none. Why bother when you can illegally govern by fiat thanks to the supplicant, spineless MAGAts in control of the legislative branch? Drumpf's most recent shiny nickel (the photoshopped image of him dressed in papal regalia---pahleeze) should not divert us from focusing on the real danger he poses to our country. He is going to spend millions on a Soviet-North Korea-China style military parade to celebrate his birthday (oh yes, and allegedly to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Army) at an estimated cost of $45m per defense officials. I mean, WTF? He'll probably instruct the troops to goose step down the streets of DC to make the historical link to the Nazis complete. And the madness continues.

And we have an industry calling all of this out, awakening people, resisting. When he hired only loyalists, the future was foretold, not only of his administration, but for the world. We get to see if we have a working system, the one we were so proud of, that seems to be teetering without the Congress checking and maybe some of the SCOTUS. Thanks to Trump's own stupidity, thinking he could just go ahead and start a dictatorship and screw opposition as if it was a fait accompli by sheer power grabbing.. and with dimwits! We will get to know what stuff we are made of on the ground level. Getting and spending, or something more meaningful about living? So little he thinks of this country, it's people, it's laws and it's vision from history that we have kept. But this is a lot of work just to get cracks happening even as they also happen naturally from the stupidity and brazenness. Carville is right but we cannot sit back and watch it. This is a test on us. And we should welcome it. We come to know who we are truly, what unifies us... or if we are irreparably split. And this in time for the 250th. Can we save ourselves?

It apparently turns out that a US hacker easily hacked the "faux Signal" app and came up with a list of the home addresses and emails of a bunch of Border Patrol folks. Lord knows what professional foreign hackers have been able to get from however long the government, particularly the DOD, has been using Signal and their personal phones.

Pete Hegseth must resign also. Trump does know he must abide the Constitution, and he took an oath to do so twice. He cannot accept his court-proven failures to honor the Constitution. So he “Don’t know!”

Trump lies. We know that is true. He is taking this country into financial ruin as he steals left and right. We watch him do it. We can stop some of the carnage with a sound, balanced budget, and a law that nixes deficit spending.
