With the trump regime imploding, the only way corp media can save him is by making it about Biden. The dem response must be NO, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! STOP IT! STOP IT! STOP IT!

Again, in case some Dems haven't gotten the message yet: NO, FFS! STOP IT!

Dems letting the Biden story form the narrative is the political equivalent of basing a business decision on sunk cost. It's a losing strategy; don't do it. Sunk cost should never influence a future decision. Ya take your lumps, don't relitigate yesterday's problems, confront today's problems head on and start working them, and move the f*** on. Right now for Dems that means move on aggressively, with fangs and claws bared and a willingness to kick corrupt oligarchic racist christo- and techno-fascism in the balls again and again, until it is driven back out to the margin of civilized society.

Republicans are rejoicing that Dems continue to let mainstream media make this a story. As a registered Dem, I DON'T CARE! Dems need to stop this stupid narrative and redirect EVERY conversation back to the current administration. If they shut down this line of questioning, it will go away. It's not like the Dems / Biden created some type of massive fraud or grift on the country or used his office for personal monetary gain....🤔 Let's focus on the things in front of us. Jake Tapper is despicable and just trying to make $$. Trying to find scandal in an administration that didn't have any. It's like when the media couldn't shut up about Obama's tan colored suit

Exactly. Democrats love to engage in hand wringing and will dwell endlessly on what is water under the bridge. They never move on but are stuck in the past, and now they want to know whether Biden and his administration "knew" he was ill with prostate cancer during his tenure. All they need to know is that it's none of their business and that it doesn't matter. Prostate cancer, for one thing, is far south of the brain. For another, it is possible to not know one has it because it can be symptomless for years. If Biden did indeed know, why should he step down when it's highly treatable? The media also seem to be more obsessed with Trump's Qatar jet than the sinking economy and the SC rulings against him.

Excellent essay! Yes, Biden is old. That he could accomplish so much good in an apparent advanced state of dementia is nothing short of amazing. Trump is also old and appears to be suffering from cognitive decline. The difference is that he cares not a whit about anyone except himself and he’s totally out of control (with the help of Miller and Vought). The Dems lost; we need to figure out how to reach those who didn’t vote. Blaming Biden is not the way to take the House and Senate in 2026 and the White House in 2028. We need to let it go.

Teri, I agree but I think you have the names reversed. It is Trump who shows unmistakeable signs of dementia while Biden shows the signs of normal cognitive decline. I say this because I have been medically diagnosed with LBD and do understand the difference and it's a huge difference that we all should be quite worried about concerning Trump. Even if Biden were still in office, his condition would not lead him to take actions that would harm the nation. In Trump's case since the dementia involves disinhibition of otherwise controlled impulses, he might well act out to all our harms.

And although the GOP said he was senile, at the same time they accused him of being a sophisticated international crime boss, criming with Ukrainians and hilariously, with Russia. By the way, Biden is not senile. His cognitive issues are normal for his age. Trump has been showing serious signs of dementia for the last 10 years.

Both of my AZ senators have voted for several of Trump’s cabinet appointees. I call them constantly and ask their voice mail why. Rs have the majority and don’t need Dem votes. Why endorse their nutjob appointees?

Honestly, a lot of Dems don’t get it. They are still playing by an old rule book to a different game.

Until they understand that they need to be a true and vocal opposition party, they will continue thinking that bipartisanship is more important than stopping dump’s march toward autocracy.

The Democrats complete willful disregard about Biden's job performance and his management skill in creating a solid support structure in his administration was stunning to me. Pure ageism. A shameful display that got us Trump. Don't blame Biden, Democrats brought this disaster on themselves. Having Tapper and Politico continue to beat this dead and stinky horse is beyond belief.

Damn right! We want the Democratic leaders to fight and at least try to stop some of the Trump destruction. Guess it's too much to ask for them to show compassion and appreciation toward Joe Biden and think more about what we do going forward.

It is apparently too much to ask. Morning Joe has spent a great deal of time this am trying to turn Biden‘s cancer diagnosis into a willful attempt to defraud the American people about his fitness for office. Angry with myself. I dishonored my boycott only to be beyond disgusted by this. No grace. No compassion. Pure clickbait just like everything else.

I wouldn't watch Joe and Mika even if I was paid to do so. Their trip to Mar-A-Largo to kiss 47's ring and pay homage was the last straw. It certainly doesn't surprise me that they are on the legacy media's bandwagon--they have never gotten off of it.

Who is this book for, anyway? Republicans may be rejoicing at its publication, but are they going to buy and read it? I don’t know any Democrats who have the time or emotional bandwidth right now to re-litigate 2024. We have work to do, folks. Stay focused on what matters, which is not Biden’s age anymore.

With the topic of the Sunday political shows focused on the book about President Biden and his supposed failure to disclose a cognitive decline that the media itself has decided he has, I became even more disgusted with them. When I listen to Biden speak- and yes, he has never been the most eloquent speaker, but his knowledge of politics is to be admired- I often wonder if the traits that some interpret as confusion are actually his dealing with public speaking and his life long struggle with stuttering. My opinion is that the media needs to stop being focused on what was and pay attention to what is- which is a dumpster fire right in front of their eyes! Leave this great man alone or give him the respect he deserves!

While 47's very much more obvious cognitive decline (if it isn't actually dementia at this point) gets totally ignored by the legacy media. it's infuriating.

A standing ovation for your post, Noah. I used to have a lot of respect for Jake Tapper especially when he abruptly ended a live interview during T1.0 with the vile Herr Stephen Miller. Shut it down completely on air! Co-authoring an entire book about Joe Biden's decline and the alleged cover up by staff is a colossal waste of ink, paper and binding. Breaking news: JOE BIDEN IS OLD. Obviously, of course, he is. But, let's not forget that he defeated the orange faced menace in 2020, had to endure a J6 direct attack on our democracy and immediately began to address the shit show left to him by his predecessor. By late 2024, the WSJ dubbed our economy the "Envy of the World." Not bad for an OLD guy. Look, Joe decided (wrongly in my opinion) to run for reelection, bombed in the debate, stepped aside and rightly supported his VP. In spite of the obstacles, Kamala ran an inspiring campaign that gave millions hope plus she eviscerated Drumpf in the debate. Her loss in the election was heartbreaking but not caused by anything she or her staff did wrong as far as I can tell. The Dems need to cease and desist with this self-flagellation and navel-gazing and start screaming to high heaven about the immoral, illegal and putrid actions of the current occupant in the WH who, by the way, is also old and a pathological liar who cannot even coherently string together a 3-word sentence. HE represents a real and present danger to our nation and the world. How about focusing more on that.

I believe we lost the election because we didn’t stand up in full-throated belief in Biden. His speech impediment, his age, his bad moment in the debate, are nothing compared to the good he did. We cancelled so much of the effect of that good when we let the pundits, the donors, the weak, poll driven reps abandon him. Underdogs are inspiring, especially when they have an inspiring message of economic growth coming out of diversity and community spirit. And the torch would be passed to Kamala Harris soon!

How I hope we can do this now. Joe’s illness gives us great reason to shout his praises to the sky.

The GOP has, since the civil rights advances of the 1960s, become ever whiter. MAGA = Make America White Again. Too many Democrats (meaning the higher-ups and the party apparatus) are still treating race and racism as a third rail: touch it and you lose the "white working class," whatever that means. Mistakes were definitely made in the run-up to the 2024 election, but the Harris-Walz ticket was not one of them. Too many pundits and upper-level Dems seem to have concluded that voters aren't ready for a woman president or a woman of color president. I call BS. The upper-level Democratic Party needs a housecleaning, maybe by a rerouting of the Potomac River. (Btw, what is the apparent sidelining of David Hogg at the DNC really about?)

Except in criminal matters, I've never been too focused on placing blame. I have been focused on those who wrongfully place blame; who point the finger at someone else to avoid it being pointed at themselves. Those same people absolutely refuse to discuss the rampant, but mostly hidden, racism and misogyny in the US. Biden didn't cause Hillary Clinton's defeat, and he didn't cause Kamala Harris' defeat. Voters caused those defeats; voters who won't vote for a mixed race candidate and won't vote for a woman (actually, they'll vote for some who's mixed race, and they'll vote for a woman, just not "that woman"). These topics are difficult to discuss and would command calls of the authors being "woke" so they're avoided. This new book is simply an opinion by two writers. They have no "proof", only hearsay. They have no crystal ball that can show them the result if only people had listened to them. I have no intention of buying or reading their book, or going to a stop on their book tour. They're doing this for the money and the attention. I don't intend to give them either.

100%, but I don't think the racism and misogyny are all that "mostly hidden." OTOH, compared to how blatant they were before the mid-60s, you've got a point. Plenty of white USians still don't get that the "small government" shtick from the Reagan era on translates neatly into "no benefits to people of color." Fwiw, I have zero interest in reading Tapper's book. There are too many excellent alternatives! I'm currently reading (and highly recommend) Richard Rothstein's THE COLOR OF LAW: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America (2017) and am just starting Leah Litman's new LAWLESS: How the Supreme Court Runs on Conservative Grievance, Fringe Theories, and Bad Vibes. (This I would have bought for the subtitle alone, but I've heard Litman interviewed a couple of times and I'm fascinated by the subject.)
