I was able to better understand that we face a cult. Therefore rational thinking is not to be expected. Now the cult members are too ashamed to admit they have screwed up. There is a way for us to rescue some. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/mired-republican-cult?r=3m1bs
Just over a month ago the Court declined to hear challenges to state gun laws allowing semi-automaric weapons and high capacity magazines. I take that as an unwillingness to revisit the complexities coming out of the Bruen decision. The Republicans may be winning the never-ending political fight, but theirs is only a temporary gain. The 2nd amendment religion is not universally shared by the majority of voters who favor numerous restrictions in gun manufacture, ownership and use.
You got that right David. Do you think America is ready for Musk's America Party? I think it would be an interesting situation with three parties. We'd break what Nader called the duopoly and get some kind of British-style coalition politics. It would fatally weaken the cancer the Republican party has become. It would decrease the dysfunctionality of our deadlocked Congress and maybe allow it to start acting as a check on the Unitary Executive.
Third parties have never been visible entities in America for long. The system is rigged to enshrine the two party system, but Musk has enough ready cash on hand to actually make a run at it
Three parties might be interesting … but not one headed by Musk, another entrepreneur without empathy. How’s about one with moderate Republicans … if any are left.
The moderates have mostly been driven out of that party or they lacked the moral fibre to stand up for their values and get primaried. I like Musk because he's got a blood feud going with Trump and his GOP supporters. In this case, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Besides, who else has the money to make it work? We really, really need to decisively break the two party system that is now strangling our national politics and gave us Trump and international infamy.
Musk? I don’t know … I would like someone who thought more about benefiting the people rather than himself—he’s just another born-rich plunderer without a penny’s worth of compassion.
Well, I can't disagree with you there! But who else has the money and motive to make a third party viable? Musk may be a broken bottle but in a to-the-death knife fight with Trump and the GOP, a broken bottle is sharper and more effective than a whole one.
Well, of course! MAGA needs its guns … cuz there’s women out there thinking about abortions, immigrants not happy to be sent to a concentration camp, uppity Negroes, libs, Dems, ANTIFA …

But in the 21st Century, Republicans no longer care what “the majority of voters” think; it’s daddy and donors only.

Republicans are all for states rights until some states pass legislation they don't like.
